Lower Austrian Football Association
The Lower Austrian Football Association (German: Niederösterreichischer Fussballverband; NÖFV) is the umbrella organization of the football clubs of the Austrian state Lower Austria. The NÖFV was founded in 1911 and has its headquarters in Sankt Pölten. The NÖFV is one of 8 regional organizations of the Austrian Football Association (german: Österreichischer Fußball-Bund, ÖFB). The NÖFV is provider of the Sportschule Lindabrunn. Sankt Pölten (; Central Bavarian: ''St. Pödn''), mostly abbreviated to the official name St. Pölten, is the capital and largest city of the State of Lower Austria in northeast Austria, with 55,538 inhabitants as of 1 January 2020. St. Pölten is a city with its own statute (or '' Statutarstadt'') and therefore it is both a municipality and a district in the ''Mostviertel''. Geography The city lies on the Traisen river and is located north of the Alps and south of the Wachau. It is part of the ''Mostviertel'', the southwest region of Lower Austria. Austria, , bar, Östareich officially the Republic of Austria, is a country in the southern part of Central Europe, lying in the Eastern Alps. Austrian Football Association
The Austrian Football Association (german: Österreichischer Fußball-Bund; ÖFB) is the governing body of football in Austria. It organises the football league, Austrian Bundesliga, the Austrian Cup and the Austria national football team, as well as its female equivalent. It is based in the capital, Vienna. Since 1905, it has been a FIFA member, and since 1954, a UEFA member. Since 7 April 2002, Friedrich Stickler (Dipl. Eng.), the director of executive committee of the Austrian lottery, has been the president of the Austrian Football Association. Lower Austria (german: Niederösterreich; Austro-Bavarian: ''Niedaöstareich'', ''Niedaestareich'') is one of the nine states of Austria, located in the northeastern corner of the country. Lower Austrian Football Cup
The Lower Austrian Football Cup (German: Niederösterreichische Fußballcup – official named the "Niederösterreichischer Landespokal" until 1975, and starting in 1983 called "NÖ-Meistercup") is one of nine Austrian football cup competitions for the level of the regional football associations and is organized by the Lower Austrian Football Association (German: Niederösterreichischer Fussballverband; NÖFV). Currently, it is also known as the "Admiral NÖ-Meistercup". The football cup was one of the highlights, next to the championship, in the late 1920s to the 1950s in Lower Austria. After several interruptions, the competition has been held every year since 1984, under the official name of the NÖ-Meistercup. Football is the most popular sport in Austria. The Austrian Football Association, the ''ÖFB'' (''Österreichischer Fußball-Bund''), was founded in 1904 and has been a member of FIFA since then. Despite the sport's popularity, except for a successful streak in the early 1930s, the country's national team has not been successful in tournaments. Austria played their first ever European championship as a qualifier in 2016, but finished last in their group and failed to advance. Their only prior appearance in the European championship was in 2008 (when it co-hosted the championship with Switzerland and was thus exempt from qualification), but was promptly eliminated already at the group stage. In the World Cup, Austria has a slightly better record, achieving fourth and third place in 1934 and 1954, respectively.
