Clara M. Lovett is an American educator and the former president of Northern Arizona University. Early life and education Born in Trieste, Italy, Lovett attended the University of Trieste in Italy and Cambridge University in the United Kingdom. Lovett moved to the United States in 1962 and received master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Texas, Austin. Career Lovett was a faculty member at Baruch College and the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. Other educational positions included dean of arts and sciences at The George Washington University, provost at George Mason University, and various positions at the University of Colorado, Cal State and CUNY. She was the Founding Trustee for Western Governors University (WGU). Lovett appeared on the list of "100 Most Powerful Women" published by Washingtonian Magazine in 1989. Merritt Marwood "Mem" Lovett (June 15, 1912 – September 19, 1995) was an American professional baseball player who appeared as a pinch-hitter in one Major League Baseball (MLB) game, for the 1933 Chicago White Sox. Listed at and , he batted and threw right-handed. Biography Lovett played on three freshman sports teams at the University of Chicago: football, basketball, and baseball. He was one of several players that the Chicago White Sox added as September call-ups in 1933; fellow call-up Milt Bocek went on to play a total of 30 games for the White Sox during 1933 and 1934. Lovett's only major league appearance came on September 4, 1933. Ernest Neville Lovett, (16 February 1869 – 8 September 1951) served as the Bishop of Portsmouth in the Church of England from 1927 to 1936 and as the Bishop of Salisbury from 1936 to 1946. Life Lovett was born in Torquay on 16 February 1869 and educated at Sherborne School and Christ's College, Cambridge. Lovett was ordained in 1892 and served as priest at Clifton, Wymynswold in Kent (now called Womenswold), Bishop's Caundle in Dorset and Shanklin on the Isle of Wight. He was Rector of Farnham, Surrey from 1908 to 1912. Linda Lovett is an Australian lawyer and was the first Indigenous woman to become a member of the Bar in Victoria (11 May 2006). She is a part of the Bunurong tribe of Victoria and the Pyemmairrener tribe of Tasmania. Biography For much of Lovett's childhood, her family lived in the family car, travelling from place to place around Victoria to avoid government authorities who, her parents feared, might separate the children from their parents as part of the Stolen Generations. William J. "Wild Bill" Lovett (July 15, 1894 – November 1, 1923) was an Irish American gangster in early 20th century New York. Beginnings Lovett was brought to New York City as a child and first fell in with the local Irish gangs around the Brooklyn waterfront as a teenager.
