Lovely (Jocelyn Enriquez Album)
''Lovely'' is the first album by singer Jocelyn Enriquez. It was released in 1994 on Classified Records. ''Lovely'' includes the hit singles "I've Been Thinking About You" (#80 on the Billboard Hot 100, ''Billboard'' Hot 100), "Make It Last Forever", "Big Love" and "Only". During this album, Enriquez was ironically labeled as a "sell-out" by some members of the Philippine-American community because of her Spanish rendition of "I've Been Thinking About You", considering that the Philippines is a Hispanic nation having been part of the Spanish Empire for over three centuries. The single was re-recorded in Spanish due to a trend in Freestyle music, freestyle dance music at the time and to appeal to the huge Latin demographic of the freestyle community. The Spanish lyrics were also translated by Monica Lisa Bernard, formerly of the freestyle trio, Heaven (With All My Heart). Jocelyn Enriquez
Jocelyn Enriquez (born December 28, 1974) is a Filipino American dance-pop singer born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her most popular songs are "Do You Miss Me", "A Little Bit of Ecstasy", and the Stars on 54 (Enriquez alongside Ultra Naté and Amber) cover of Gordon Lightfoot's "If You Could Read My Mind". Her success helped inspire and pave the way for many Asian American, particularly Filipino Americans from the San Francisco Bay Area, artists during the mid to late 1990s such as Buffy, Kai, One Vo1ce, Pinay, Sharyn Maceren, and others. Freestyle music, also called Latin freestyle or Latin hip-hop ''(sic)'' is a form of electronic dance music that emerged in the New York metropolitan area and Philadelphia, primarily among Hispanic Americans and Italian Americans in the 1980s. Classified Records was an independent record label based in San Francisco, California, that released music by Jocelyn Enriquez, Pinay, Julie Plug, M:G, Drop 'n Harmony, as well as the Serenade compilation series. The label was founded by Kormann Roque, Elvin Reyes, and Rino Que in 1993. Classified Records was well known within the Filipino community since many staff members and recording artists were of Filipino descent. The first release was the debut album by Jocelyn Enriquez, who became popular with her hit records "I've Been Thinking About You", " Do You Miss Me?", and "A Lil' Bit of Ecstasy" produced by Glenn Gutierrez. The label's other notable singles included "Is It Real" by Pinay along with "Sweet Honesty" and "What Do You Remember" by M:G. All of these charted on ''Billboard'' magazine. ''Jocelyn'' is the second album by Jocelyn Enriquez, released in 1997 on Classified Records / Timber! Records / Tommy Boy Records. It features her biggest mainstream hits to date, " Do You Miss Me?" and "A Little Bit of Ecstasy". "Even If" was opted for a single and remixed by Soul Solution however "Get Into the Rhythm" was the 3rd and last single released from the album. "Stay With Me" was commercially released in Brazil. After several delays the album was finally released in May 1997. The notable differences between released versions were the sequence which included a pop R&B song titled "Where Is The Love", an introduction track to "Kailanman", two tracks with voicemail recordings, and three mixes of "Do You Miss Me", the cover of Yazoo's "Only You" was remixed, three new songs "Everything I Need", "If I'm Falling In Love", and "Can You Feel It", the Information Society inspired Running Mix for "Do You Miss Me", and the Freefloor Mix for "A Little Bit of Ecstasy".
