Love, Virginia
Love is an unincorporated community in Augusta County, Virginia, United States. Love is located on the Blue Ridge Parkway, within the Mount Pleasant National Scenic Area. At the beginning of the 20th century the area was home to over 1000 people who farmed the surrounding mountains & hollows. Situated on the natural route between the Tye River Valley and the Shenandoah Valley, Love had a general store, post office, church and blacksmith. Love was a remote outpost until the Blue Ridge Parkway was constructed in 1936. The parkway changed mountain life and people moved away from homesteading and subsistence farming. The historic Mountain Top church and small cemetery remain. Love Ridge Mountain Lodging, located on the ridge above Love, offers cabins and vacation rentals open year round and shares a border with the Blue Ridge Parkway. Augusta County, Virginia
Augusta County is a county in the Shenandoah Valley on the western edge of the Commonwealth of Virginia. The second-largest county of Virginia by total area, it completely surrounds the independent cities of Staunton and Waynesboro. Its county seat is Staunton, but most of the administrative services have offices in neighboring Verona. The county was created in 1738 from part of Orange County and was named after Princess Augusta of Saxe-Gotha. It was originally a huge area, but many of its parts were carved out to form other counties and several states until the current borders were finalized in 1790. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and locative information about more than two million physical and cultural features throughout the United States and its territories, Antarctica, and the associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau. It is a type of gazetteer. It was developed by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with the United States Board on Geographic Names (BGN) to promote the standardization of feature names. Blue Ridge Parkway
The Blue Ridge Parkway is a National Parkway and All-American Road in the United States, noted for its scenic beauty. The parkway, which is America's longest linear park, runs for through 29 Virginia and North Carolina counties, linking Shenandoah National Park to Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
