Loutros, Evros
Loutros (Greek: Λουτρός) is a village in the southern part of the Evros regional unit in Greece. It is part of the municipal unit of Traianoupoli. Its population in 2011 was 713 for the settlement and 769 for the community, including the villages Loutra Traianoupoleos (thermal baths) and Pefka. It is located on a small river between low hills, east of Alexandroupoli, on the edge of the coastal plains of the Aegean Sea. East Macedonia And Thrace
Eastern Macedonia and Thrace ( el, Ανατολική Μακεδονία και Θράκη, translit=Anatolikí Makedonía ke Thráki, ) is one of the thirteen administrative regions of Greece. It consists of the northeastern parts of the country, comprising the eastern part of the region of Macedonia along with the region of Western Thrace, and the islands of Thasos and Samothrace. Evros (regional Unit)
Evros ( el, Περιφερειακή ενότητα Έβρου) is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of the region of East Macedonia and Thrace. Its name is derived from the river Evros, which appears to have been a Thracian hydronym. Evros is the northernmost regional unit. It borders Turkey to the east, across the river Evros, and it borders Bulgaria to the north and the northwest. Its capital is Alexandroupolis. Together with the regional units Rhodope and Xanthi, it forms the geographical region of Western Thrace. The population density was 34.77 per km2 (2011). Geography Evros is one of the largest regional units of Greece. It forms the eastern part of the geographical region Western Thrace, and includes the island Samothrace in the northern Aegean Sea. Alexandroupoli
Alexandroupolis ( el, Αλεξανδρούπολη, ), Alexandroupoli, or Alexandrople is a city in Greece and the capital of the Evros regional unit. It is the largest city in Western Thrace and the region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. It has 71,601 inhabitants and is an important port and commercial center of northeastern Greece. The city was first settled by the Ottoman Empire in the 19th century and grew into a fishing village, Dedeağaç. In 1873, it became a ''kaza'' and one year later, it was promoted to a ''sanjak''. The city developed into a regional trading center. Later, it became a part of Adrianople Vilayet. During the Russo-Turkish War (1877–1878), it was briefly captured by the Russians. Ottoman rule ended with the First Balkan War, when the city was captured by Bulgaria in 1912. In the Second Balkan War, Greece took the control of the city. Traianoupoli
Traianoupoli ( el, Τραϊανούπολη) or Traianopolis or Trajanopolis was a medieval settlement in the 14th century in the Evros regional unit of East Macedonia and Thrace region, northeastern Greece, nowadays named Loutra Traianopouleos. Traianoupoli was also the name of a municipality which existed between 1997 and 2011 following the Kapodistrias Plan. Modern town Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Alexandroupoli, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 163.549 km2. Population 2,706 (2011). The seat of the municipality is in Antheia.
