Loukov (Mladá Boleslav District)
Loukov is a municipality and village in Mladá Boleslav District in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 200 inhabitants. The village is well preserved and is protected as a village monument zone. Etymology The name is derived from the personal name Louka (in old Czech written as Lúka), meaning "Louka's/Lúka's (court)". Geography Loukov is located about northeast of Mladá Boleslav and south of Liberec. It lies in the Jičín Uplands. The highest point is the hill Slavín at above sea level. The municipality is situated on the right bank of the Jizera River. History Loukov was probably founded around 1200 and there is an indirect reference that the village existed in 1225. The first trustworthy written mention of Loukov is from 1352, when it was owned by the Cistercian monastery in Klášter Hradiště nad Jizerou. Jizera (river)
The Jizera (, ) is a river in the Czech Republic and for a brief stretch in Poland. It is a right tributary of the Elbe and flows through the Liberec and Central Bohemian regions. It is long, making it the 10th longest river in the Czech Republic. Etymology The first written mention of Jizera (as ''Gizera'') is from the 13th century. Turnov
Turnov (; ) is a town in Semily District in the Liberec Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 15,000 inhabitants. It is a traditional centre for gemstone polishing, glass craftsmanship and arts. The historic town centre is well preserved and is protected as an urban monument zone. D10 Motorway (Czech Republic)
D10 motorway () is a motorway in the Czech Republic, running north-east, from Prague to Mladá Boleslav and Turnov. It forms part of the European route E65. Chronology The construction of today's D10 motorway began in 1967 with the construction of an long section between Bezděčín and Chudoplesy. The sections leading away from Prague have been built since the 1970s, and at that time, it was planned to build the expressway to the Polish. As part of a reassessment of the concept of motorway and expressway construction carried out in 1993, the plans for a continuation from Turnov, towards Harrachov and towards the Polish border were removed. Svijany () is a municipality and village in Liberec District in the Liberec Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 400 inhabitants. It is known for the Svijany Brewery. Hussite Wars
The Hussite Wars, also called the Bohemian Wars or the Hussite Revolution, were a series of civil wars fought between the Hussites and the combined Catholic forces of Sigismund, Holy Roman Emperor, Holy Roman Emperor Sigismund, the Papacy, and European monarchs loyal to the Catholic Church, as well as various Hussite factions. At a late stage of the conflict, the Utraquists changed sides in 1432 to fight alongside Roman Catholics and opposed the Taborites and other Hussite factions.
