Louisville, Ohio
Louisville ( /ˈluːɪsvɪl/) is a city in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 9,521 at the time of the 2020 census. Located northeast of Canton, it is a suburb of the Canton–Massillon metropolitan area. History On October 8, 1834, Louisville was formally settled by Henry Lautzenheiser, from Germany, and Henry Fainot, a French Huguenot. The city was named after Lautzenheiser's son, Lewis, and called Lewisville, Ohio. The name of the town was also considered appropriate because it was initially surveyed by the similar-sounding name of Lewis Vail. When the post office was established in 1837, with Sam Petree as its first postmaster, it was discovered Ohio already had a Lewisville, so the spelling was changed to Louisville. Nimishillen Township is one of the seventeen townships of Stark County, Ohio, United States. The 2000 census found 9,098 people in the township. Geography Located in the eastern part of the county, it borders the following townships: * Marlboro Township - north * Washington Township - east * Paris Township - southeast * Osnaburg Township - south * Canton Township - southwest corner * Plain Township - west * Lake Township - northwest corner Two cities are located in Nimishillen Township: Louisville in the south, and a small part of Canton, the county seat of Stark County, in the southwest. Louisville High School (Ohio)
Louisville High School is a public high school located in Louisville, Ohio, United States. It is the only high school in the Louisville City School District. It serves all of the city of Louisville and the majority of the surrounding Nimishillen Township. History The first schoolhouse within Louisville was a one-room log cabin located on the corner of Nickelplate and Main Streets. It was built in the 1840s and was replaced by a two-room brick edifice in the 1850s. This new school was located on the northeast corner of Mill and Broad Streets. In 1872, Louisville's seat of learning was moved again to another two-room brick building, located upon South Chapel Street. Louisville's students moved to a larger, four-classroom building on the corner of Mill and Gorgas Street in 1876, where Louisville's current City Hall building now stands.Smith, Kenneth R.
