Louisiana Highway 12
Louisiana Highway 12 (LA 12) is a state highway located in southwestern Louisiana. It runs in an east–west direction from the Texas state line west of Starks to a junction with U.S. Highway 171 (US 171) and U.S. Highway 190 (US 190) in Ragley. LA 12 traverses an area of the state known as Acadiana and is also signed as the Acadiana Trail. The route connects the city of DeQuincy with US 171 and US 190, two of the region's main highways. It is also the only highway crossing the Texas–Louisiana border between US 190 to the north and the concurrent Interstate 10 (I-10) and US 90 to the south. LA 12 enters both Calcasieu Parish and Beauregard Parish twice along its route. This is due to a northern protrusion of the former from an otherwise linear border that encompasses the DeQuincy area. The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is a state government organization in the United States, in charge of maintaining public transportation, roadways, bridges, canals, select levees, floodplain management, port facilities, commercial vehicles, and aviation which includes 69 airports, in the U.S. state of Louisiana. The agency has approximately five thousand personnel on staff and an operating budget of $2.3 billion. DOTD operations are run through nine district offices across the state. State Highway 12 (SH 12) is an west–east state highway in the U.S. state of Texas that runs from Interstate 10 (I-10) in Vidor to the Louisiana state line at Deweyville. The route was designated on August 27, 1959, as a renumbering of SH 235 to match the numbering of Louisiana Highway 12 (LA 12), with which it connects. Route description SH 12 begins at an intersection with I-10 and US 90 on the north side of Vidor, and travels to the northeast. Louisiana Highway 27 (LA 27) is a state highway located in southwestern Louisiana. It runs in a general north–south direction from LA 14 in Holmwood to the junction of U.S. Highways 171 and 190 in DeRidder. The route travels in a mirror-image of the letter "J" as it loops through the wetlands surrounding Calcasieu Lake and passes through Cameron, a small community situated on the Gulf of Mexico. It then extends northward through Sulphur, Louisiana, Sulphur en route to its terminus in DeRidder. LA 27 essentially functions as two north–south roadways connecting the sparsely populated Cameron Parish, Louisiana, Cameron Parish to the Lake Charles metropolitan area and is signed accordingly. DeQuincy Railroad Museum
The Kansas City Southern Depot is an historic train station, located at 400 Lake Charles Avenue, in DeQuincy, Louisiana. The depot is currently home to the DeQuincy Railroad Museum. History The Kansas City Southern Railroad completed a line from Shreveport to Lake Charles in 1897, that ran through and split in Dequincy, also going to Beaumont and Port Arthur, Texas. The community of DeQuincy was incorporated in 1903, and a new modern urban depot was built in 1923, of Mission Revival architecture. Urban depots of that time were larger, typically multi-story, and built with a recognizable architectural style, as opposed to the simpler board and batten structures found in villages. The DeQuincy depot is one of three such urban railroad stations still existing in Louisiana, the others are the Central Railroad Station in Shreveport, and the Texas and Pacific Railroad Depot in Bunkie.
