DeQuincy Railroad Museum
The Kansas City Southern Depot is an historic train station, located at 400 Lake Charles Avenue, in DeQuincy, Louisiana. The depot is currently home to the DeQuincy Railroad Museum. History The Kansas City Southern Railroad completed a line from Shreveport to Lake Charles in 1897, that ran through and split in Dequincy, also going to Beaumont and Port Arthur, Texas. The community of DeQuincy was incorporated in 1903, and a new modern urban depot was built in 1923, of Mission Revival architecture. Urban depots of that time were larger, typically multi-story, and built with a recognizable architectural style, as opposed to the simpler board and batten structures found in villages. The DeQuincy depot is one of three such urban railroad stations still existing in Louisiana, the others are the Central Railroad Station in Shreveport, and the Texas and Pacific Railroad Depot in Bunkie. DeQuincy, Louisiana
DeQuincy is the northernmost city in Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 3,235 at the 2010 census. DeQuincy is part of the Lake Charles metropolitan statistical area. History DeQuincy was founded in 1897 as a railroad town with the Calcasieu, Vernon & Shreveport Railway Company (CV&S) having been completed and Arthur Stilwell's Kansas City, Shreveport & Gulf Railway Company (KCS&G), that was owned by the Kansas City, Pittsburg and Gulf Railroad (KCP&G), completed in 1897. On 8 March 1944, two Air Force aircraft from nearby Barksdale Air Force Base collided overhead killing seven people. Geography DeQuincy is located in northern Calcasieu Parish at (30.450915, -93.435613). Missouri Pacific Railroad
The Missouri Pacific Railroad , commonly abbreviated as MoPac, was one of the first railroads in the United States west of the Mississippi River. MoPac was a Class I railroad growing from dozens of predecessors and mergers. In 1967, the railroad operated 9,041 miles of road and 13,318 miles of track, not including DK&S, NO&LC, T&P, and its subsidiaries C&EI and Missouri-Illinois. Union Pacific Corporation, the parent company of the Union Pacific Railroad, agreed to buy the Missouri Pacific Railroad on January 8, 1980. Lawsuits filed by competing railroads delayed approval of the merger until September 13, 1982. After the Supreme Court denied a trial to the Southern Pacific, the merger took effect on December 22, 1982.
