Louisiana Highway 111 (LA 111) is a state highway located in western Louisiana. It runs in a general north–south direction from U.S. Route 190 in Louisiana, U.S. Highway 190 (US 190) in Junction, Louisiana, Junction to Louisiana Highway 117, LA 117 northeast of Leesville, Louisiana, Leesville. The route parallels the Texas state line, located along the Sabine River (Texas–Louisiana), Sabine River, from a point north of Merryville, Louisiana, Merryville to the south end of the Toledo Bend Reservoir. Its direction then changes from north–south to east–west as it bends around the northwest side of the Leesville area, though this is not reflected on its directional banners. During this stretch, the highway crosses Vernon Lake and passes through the village of Anacoco, Louisiana, Anacoco, where it intersects U.S. Route 171, US 171. The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is a state government organization in the United States, in charge of maintaining public transportation, roadways, bridges, canals, select levees, floodplain management, port facilities, commercial vehicles, and aviation which includes 69 airports, in the U.S. state of Louisiana. The agency has approximately five thousand personnel on staff and an operating budget of $2.3 billion. DOTD operations are run through nine district offices across the state. The current DOTD Secretary is Shawn D. Wilson, appointed in January 2016 by Governor John Bel Edwards. Vernon Lake
Vernon Lake is a man-made lake in Vernon Parish, Louisiana. In 1963, Vernon Lake was created by the impounding of Anacoco Creek (Anacoco Bayou), creating a lake for the purpose of water supply and recreation. The lake is five miles west of Leesville, and eight miles north of Anacoco Lake. History The Louisiana Legislature passed La. Act 277 of 1948 creating the Anacoco-Prairie State Game and Fish Preserve, setting aside 5,379 acres of land, money for the purchase of wild game and fish, and for restocking purposes, as well as for the building and maintenance of a dam. A second dam was authorized but no money provided. Construction was completed in 1951. Lake authority Act 858 of the 1981 Legislature abolished the Anacoco Prairie Game and Fish Commission and transferred authority to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. Almadane, Louisiana
Almadane is an unincorporated community in Vernon Parish, Louisiana, United States. The community is located to the south of Evans and west of Rosepine on the western edge of Clear Creek Wildlife Management Area on the scenic Myths and Legends Byway. Etymology When the community was founded the first postmaster Daniel R. Knight needed to give the community a name. He decided to use his name combined the names of two other citizens. The names of the three men, Al Damereal, Mann Huddleston and Daniel R. Knight became ''Al-ma-dan''. The postmaster added an ''e'' to the end of the newly formed name and submitted the paperwork to the United States Post Office and it was accepted.
