Louis Waltniel
Louis Gustaaf Waltniel (28 August 1925 – 29 December 2001) was a Belgian liberal politician and industrialist. He held a master's degree in economic sciences. He was member of the city council, an alderman and finally burgomaster of Ninove (1995–2001). Waltniel also served as a member of parliament ( Chamber of Representatives: 1965–1968, 1971–1974, Belgian Senate 1974-1992), state secretary for the civil service (1981–1985), state secretary for finance (1985), Deputy-president of the Flemish government and Flemish minister of finance and the budget (1985–1988) and Flemish minister of housing, spatial planning and monuments (1988–1992). He was president of the Liberaal Vlaams Verbond from 1974 until 1982. Ninove
Ninove () is a city and municipality located in the Flemish province of East Flanders in Belgium. It is situated on the river Dender, and is part of the Denderstreek. The municipality comprises the city of Ninove proper and since the 1976 merger of the towns of , , , , Meerbeke, , , , , and . On 1 January 2018 Ninove had a total population of 38,692. The total area is 72.57 km2 which gives a population density of 533 inhabitants per km2. History The oldest version of the name "Ninove", ''Neonifus'' dates from the 9th century. Later versions of the city name were ''Ninive'' and ''Nineve''. The current version of the city name dates from the 14th century. The origin of the city name is not clear. Meerbeke
Meerbeke is a village in the Denderstreek in the province of East Flanders in Belgium. Administratively it is part of the municipality of Ninove. This rural community is located along the Dender River on the western border of what is known as "Pajottenland". With a total surface of 1056ha it is the second largest village in Ninove (behind Denderwindeke). With 5.888 inhabitants (in 2021) it's the most populated village in Ninove, next to the centre of Ninove itself. Belgian Senate
The Senate ( nl, Senaat, ; french: Sénat, ; german: Senat) is one of the two chambers of the bicameral Federal Parliament of Belgium, the other being the Chamber of Representatives. It is considered to be the "upper house" of the Federal Parliament. The Liberaal Vlaams Verbond (E: Liberal Flemish League) was founded in 1913. From its origin it wanted to promote the Flemish cause and drew attention to social matters, within the Belgian Liberal Party. Together with the Willemsfonds and the Liberaal Vlaams Studentenverbond, it is one of the Flemish liberal organizations.
