Louis Temporale
Louis Temporale, (October27, 1909 May22, 1994) was an Italian–born Canadian sculptor. Career Louis Temporale was born in Maiano (now Fiesole), Fruili province, Italy.A Dictionary of Canadian Artists, volumes 1-8 by Colin S. He later studied sculpture with Giuseppe Del Fabro in the town of Saint Daniele. He emigrated to Canada in 1927, settling in Toronto. He studied sculpture with Elizabeth Wyn Wood at the Central Technical School and Emanuel Hahn at the Ontario College of Art. In 1929, Temporale and his brother Peter purchased an old icehouse in Port Credit, a neighborhood in Mississauga, Ontario and established the family business of Canadian Art Memorials Limited which delivered a wide range of sculpture, among it cemetery gravestones. Wanping Fortress
Wanping Fortress, also known as Wanping Castle (), is a Ming Dynasty fortress or "walled city" in Fengtai District, Beijing. It was erected in 1638–1640, with the purpose of defending Beijing against Li Zicheng and the peasant uprising. From the beginning, it functioned as a military fortress. From west to east, it measures , and from south to the north , making it a half-square shape. The fortress has two gates: the east gate, named Ever Prosperous Gate (永昌門, ''Yongchangmen''), then renamed as Majestic Gate (威嚴門, ''Weiyanmen''), and the west gate, named Favorably Govern Gate (順治門, ''Shunzhimen''). Wanping witnessed the incident in July 1937 that is reckoned to mark the start of the Second Sino-Japanese War, with an exchange of fire over a minor case of a Japanese soldier missing from his post. The Order of Ontario () is the most prestigious official honour in the Canadian province of Ontario. Instituted in 1986 by Lieutenant Governor Lincoln Alexander, on the advice of the Cabinet under Premier David Peterson, the civilian order is administered by the Lieutenant Governor-in-Council and is intended to honour current or former Ontario residents for conspicuous achievements in any field. The Ontario Society of Artists (OSA) was founded in 1872. It is Canada's oldest continuously operating professional art society. When it was founded at the home of John Arthur Fraser, seven artists were present. Besides Fraser himself, Marmaduke Matthews, and Thomas Mower Martin were there, among others. Charlotte Schreiber was the first woman member in 1876 and showed work in the Society's Annual show of that year. The list of objectives drawn up by the founding executive included the "fostering of Original Art in the province, the holding of Annual Exhibitions, the formation of an Art Library and Museum and School of Art". Prominent businessman William Holmes Howland was invited to be President of the Society. The Royal Canadian Academy of Arts (RCA) is a Canadian arts-related organization that was founded in 1880. History 1880 to 1890 The title of Royal Canadian Academy of Arts was received from Queen Victoria on 16 July 1880. The Governor General of Canada, the Marquess of Lorne, was its first patron. The painter Lucius O’Brien was its first President.
