Louis Gerlinger Sr.
Louis Gerlinger Sr. (25 January 1853 – 9 June 1941)Obituary published in ''The Historical Oregonian'', June 10, 1941 was a businessperson in the railroad and timber industries in the U.S. state of Oregon in the early 20th century. Gerlinger became involved in the railroad business comparatively late in life. He was born in Weitersweiler, Alsace, in January 1853. At the age of 17, around the time Alsace was annexed by the German Empire, he came to the United States, settling in Chicago. He married and had three sons (George, Louis Jr., and Edward) and a daughter. He built a prosperous store and saloon fixture business.Baldwin, Cathrine A. The Douglas fir (''Pseudotsuga menziesii'') is an evergreen conifer species in the pine family, Pinaceae. It is native to western North America and is also known as Douglas-fir, Douglas spruce, Oregon pine, and Columbian pine. There are three varieties: coast Douglas-fir (''P. menziesii'' var. ''menziesii''), Rocky Mountain Douglas-fir (''P. menziesii'' var. ''glauca'') and Mexican Douglas-fir (''P. menziesii'' var. ''lindleyana''). Weyerhaeuser () is an American timberland company which owns nearly of timberlands in the U.S., and manages an additional of timberlands under long-term licenses in Canada. History In 1904, after years of successful Mississippi River-based lumber and mill operations with Frederick Denkmann and others, Frederick Weyerhäuser moved west to fresh timber areas and founded the Weyerhäuser Timber Company. Fifteen partners and of Washington timberland were involved in the founding, and the land was purchased from James J. Hill of the Great Northern Railway. In 1929, the company built what was then the world's largest sawmill in Longview, Washington. History It is part of the Dallas micropolitan statistical area. Falls City is named after a waterfall in the Little Luckiamute River that passes through the center of town. Siletz River
The Siletz River flows about to the Pacific Ocean through coastal mountains in the U.S. state of Oregon. Formed by the confluence of its north and south forks near Valsetz in Polk County, it winds through the Central Oregon Coast Range. The river, draining a watershed of , empties into Siletz Bay, south of Lincoln City in Lincoln County. Although the river travels in river miles, its winding course begins only about east of the ocean, and its mouth and source latitudes are almost identical.
