Lotgenoten (Dutch for ''Counterparts'') is a Dutch feature film, directed by Stephan Brenninkmeijer. The film was made during the crowd sourced project Entertainment Experience with Paul Verhoeven. ''Lotgenoten'' was picked up by Benelux Film Distributors for Dutch nationwide release in March 2013. Stephan Brenninkmeijer
Stephan Brenninkmeijer (born 27 June 1964 in Doorwerth) is a Dutch film director, screenwriter, and producer. Life and career Brenninkmeijer was born and raised at Doorwerth Castle, Netherlands, where his father G.H. Brenninkmeijer was owner of the Michelin starred Restaurant Beaulieu. At the age of 8 his family moved to Apeldoorn. From 1988 to 1992 he studied at the Netherlands Film Academy in Amsterdam. Although aiming to direct feature films, he first focused on storytelling through editing. In 1992, he started his professional career editing television series and films. As an editor he worked with Dutch directors like Academy Award winner Mike van Diem. He directed his first feature film in 2000, '' The Silence of the Soul'', which won a "Golden Crown" Award at the ICVM festival in Atlanta, United States. Entertainment Experience was a Dutch TV-program and competition following the creation of a user-generated film-project in which two films were created: one film made by professionals named ''Tricked'' (''Steekspel''), directed by Dutch director Paul Verhoeven, and one "user-generated film" made by contesting teams of participants. The process of making the films was shown on Veronica. Production The project was launched on September 21, 2011, and finished at the end of 2012. The film script consisted of eight parts. Part one was written by Kim van Kooten. "The crowd" (participators of the competition) wrote the scripts for the seven following parts. Paul Verhoeven
Paul Verhoeven (; born 18 July 1938) is a Dutch director, producer and screenwriter, active in the Netherlands, France and the United States. His blending of graphic violence and sexual content with social satire is a trademark of both his drama and science fiction films. After receiving attention for the TV series '' Floris'' in his native Netherlands, Verhoeven got his film breakthrough with romantic drama ''Turkish Delight'' (1973), starring frequent collaborator Rutger Hauer. Kim Van Kooten
Kim van Kooten (born 26 January 1974 in Purmerend, North Holland) is a Dutch actress and screenwriter. In international cinema, she is best known for the 2003 Dutch/US co-production ''Phileine Says Sorry'', filmed partly in New York City, in which she plays the lead. She is the author of the script of the very successful Dutch movie ''Alles is Liefde'' (''Everything is Love''), and won a Golden Calf for Best Actress in ''Phileine Says Sorry'' (2003), and for Best Scenario with ''Met grote blijdschap'' (2001). Life and work Van Kooten grew up in Zuidoostbeemster. She is the daughter of Kees van Kooten and Barbara Kits. Her brother is the actor and singer Kasper van Kooten. She studied screenwriting at the Film Academy in Holland, but dropped out in the first year. Benelux Film Distributors, also known as Benelux Film Distributors Home Entertainment, BFD and BFDHE, was a joint venture of various independent film distributors founded in 2006. They marketed a wide range of films in cinemas and on home video in the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. They distributed films by Lumière (Belgium), Inspire Pictures (Netherlands) and Dutch FilmWorks (Netherlands). The company Video/Film Express (Houten, Netherlands), founded in 1991, were merged with BFD on January 1, 2012. Subsequently, BFD had two offices in Ghent, Belgium and Houten.
