Loricariichthys
''Loricariichthys'' is a genus of catfishes ( order Siluriformes) of the family Loricariidae. Taxonomy This genus is part of the ''Loricariichthys'' group within the subfamily Loricariinae; this group also includes the genera '' Furcodontichthys'', ''Hemiodontichthys'', '' Limatulichthys'', and '' Pseudoloricaria''. ''Loricariichthys'' seems to be intermediate between ''Limatulichthys'' and ''Pseudoloricaria'' on one hand, and ''Furcodontichthys'' and ''Hemiodontichthys'' on the other. Although this genus is well diagnosed, the species are very similar and difficult to identify. Species There are currently 18 recognized species in this genus: * '' Loricariichthys acutus'' (Valenciennes, 1840) * '' Loricariichthys anus'' (Valenciennes, 1835) * '' Loricariichthys brunneus'' (Hancock, 1828) * '' Loricariichthys cashibo'' ( C. H. Eigenmann & W. R. Allen, 1942) * '' Loricariichthys castaneus'' ( Castelnau, 1855) * '' Loricariichthys chanjoo'' ( Fowler, 1940) * '' Loricariichthys der ...

Hemiodontichthys
''Hemiodontichthys acipenserinus'' is the only species of the monotypic genus ''Hemiodontichthys'', a genus of the family Loricariidae of catfish ( order Siluriformes). Taxonomy This taxon is often compared with the morphologically similar '' Reganella depressa''; ''Hemiodontichthys'' has been considered the sister genus of ''Reganella'' on the basis of osteological data. However, the similar external morphology of these two taxa could be interpreted as an evolutionary convergence, as they occupy the same ecological niche. In both, there is a rostrum and the loss of maxillary teeth; these could have evolved independently in different lineages subjected to similar environmental constraints. Considering some of the morphological characteristics of the two species, ''Hemiodontichthys'' is now believed to be part of the '' Loricariichthys'' group, while ''Reganella'' is part of the ''Pseudohemiodon'' group. Distribution ''Hemiodontichthys acipenserinus'' is native to the countries ...

Loricariidae
The Loricariidae is the largest family of catfish (order Siluriformes), with 92 genera and just over 680 species. Loricariids originate from freshwater habitats of Costa Rica, Panama, and tropical and subtropical South America. These fish are noted for the bony plates covering their bodies and their suckermouths. Several genera are sold as " plecos", notably the suckermouth catfish, ''Hypostomus plecostomus'', and are popular as aquarium fish. Common names Members of the family Loricariidae are commonly referred to as loricariids, suckermouth armoured catfishes, or armoured catfish. The name "plecostomus", and its shortened forms "pleco" and "plec", are used for many Loricariidae, since ''Plecostomus plecostomus'' (now called ''Hypostomus plecostomus'') was one of the first loricariid species imported for the fish-keeping hobby. Some loricariids are not normally considered "plecostomus", such as ''Farlowella'' catfish. In their native range, these fish are known as ''cascudos'' ...
