Lord Robert Pelham-Clinton
Lord Robert Renebald Pelham-Clinton (15 October 1820 – 25 July 1867), known as Lord Robert Clinton, was a British Liberal Party politician. Background Clinton was a younger son of Henry Pelham-Clinton, 4th Duke of Newcastle, and Georgiana Elizabeth, daughter of Edward Miller-Mundy. Henry Pelham-Clinton, 5th Duke of Newcastle and Lord Charles Pelham-Clinton were his elder brothers. Political career Clinton entered the House of Commons as Member of Parliament (MP) for Nottinghamshire North when he was elected unopposed at the 1852 general election. He was re-elected unopposed at three further general elections, until he stood down at the 1865. Personal life In 1847 he volunteered his services gratuitously as an agent for the British Relief Association in Ireland. Pelham-Clinton died in July 1867, aged 46. Lord Henry William Scott-Bentinck (9 June 1804 – 31 December 1870), known as Lord Henry Bentinck, was a British Conservative Party politician. Background Bentinck was the third son of William Bentinck, 4th Duke of Portland, and Henrietta, daughter of Major-General John Scott. William Cavendish-Scott-Bentinck, 5th Duke of Portland and Lord George Bentinck were his elder brothers. Political career Bentinck sat as Member of Parliament (MP) for North Nottinghamshire from 1846 to 1857. He was also a Trustee of the British Museum and a well-known hound man. Despite being an advocate of the abolition of slavery, he nevertheless submitted an unsuccessful claim for £2,411, relating to 46 enslaved Africans on the L'amitie estate, Trinidad. Lord Edward Pelham-Clinton
Lieutenant-Colonel Lord Edward William Pelham-Clinton (11 August 1836 – 9 July 1907), known as Lord Edward Clinton, was a British Liberal Party politician. Life Clinton was the second son of Henry Pelham-Clinton, 5th Duke of Newcastle and his wife Lady Susan Hamilton and educated at Eton until 1853. He joined the Rifle Brigade as an ensign in 1854 and served in the Crimea after the fall of Sebastopol. He reached the rank of captain in 1857 and spent 5 years in Canada (1861–1865). In 1878 he attained the rank of lieutenant colonel and retired in 1880 while posted in India. Clinton was elected unopposed at the 1865 general election as Member of Parliament (MP) for North Nottinghamshire, but did not seek re-election in 1868. Clinton was Groom-in-Waiting to Queen Victoria from 1881 to 1894, then Master of the Household from September 1894 until her death in January 1901. John Evelyn Denison, 1st Viscount Ossington, PC (27 January 1800 – 7 March 1873) was a British statesman who served as Speaker of the House of Commons from 1857 to 1872. Henry Pelham Fiennes Pelham-Clinton, 4th Duke of Newcastle-under-Lyne (31 January 1785 – 12 January 1851) was a British nobleman and politician who played a leading part in British politics in the late 1820s and early 1830s. He was styled Lord Clinton from birth until 1794 and Earl of Lincoln between 1794 and 1795. Early life Pelham-Clinton was the eldest son of Thomas Pelham-Clinton, 3rd Duke of Newcastle-under-Lyne, and his wife Lady Anna Maria (née Stanhope), and was educated at Eton College. His father died when he was ten years old. In 1803, encouraged by the Peace of Amiens which provided a break in hostilities with France, his mother and stepfather took him on a European Tour.
