Loranger Methodist Church
Loranger Methodist Church, formerly at Allman Avenue and Magnolia Boulevard in Loranger, Louisiana, was built in 1915. It was added to the National Register in 1982. It was delisted, however, in 2015. The church was built in 1915 and was lit by kerosene lanterns with a stable behind the church to accommodate horses. During the Great Depression the basement was used to teach the villagers how to preserve food. It is a three-story building amidst a modern Loranger school complex, with a bungalow-style porch and a square belltower with a distinctive spreading pyramid roof. It was built of Louisiana Longleaf Yellow Pine donated by the Genesee Lumber Company, which donated lumber for another church and a school (neither of which survive), as part of making the area more attractive for in-migration of workers for the company. Loranger, Louisiana
Loranger (pronounced Lo-RAHN-jer) is an unincorporated community in Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana, United States. Loranger is located East of Hammond, Louisiana, at the junction of LA 40 and LA 1062. The Loranger Elementary School, Loranger Middle School, and Loranger High School each serve a wide geographic range of families living in and around the very rural Loranger area. The Loranger School District is bordered by the school districts of Folsom, Amite, Independence, and Hammond. Arcola Presbyterian Church
The Arcola Presbyterian Church is a historic Presbyterian church in Arcola, Louisiana, United States. It was built in 1859 and is of the Greek Revival architectural style. It is owned by the Amite–Arcola Presbyterian Church in Amite, Louisiana. The five-acre property was dedicated in 1859 by John Corkern and John Leonard to promote "Christianity, morality and education under the jurisdiction of the Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church South." By 1861 the church was practicing as Presbyterian. In 1897 it became an official Presbyterian church. On June 3, 1964, the property was given to the congregation. The Arcola church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. Southeastern Louisiana University
Southeastern Louisiana University (Southeastern) is a public university in Hammond, Louisiana. It was founded in 1925 by Linus A. Sims as Hammond Junior College. Sims succeeded in getting the campus moved to north Hammond in 1928, when it became known as Southeastern Louisiana College. It achieved university status in 1970. In the fall of 2019 there were 14,298 students enrolled. During the 1990s, Southeastern was one of the fastest-growing colleges in the United States.
