This is a listing of all the animated shorts released by Warner Bros. under the ''Looney Tunes'' and ''Merrie Melodies'' banners between 1930 and 1939, plus the pilot film from 1929 which was used to sell the ''Looney Tunes'' series to Leon Schlesinger and Warner Bros. A total of 270 shorts were released during the 1930s. 1929 ''Bosko, the Talk-Ink Kid'' is a live-action/animated short film starring a character named Bosko. The film was produced in May 1929, directed by Hugh Harman and Rudolf Ising, and shown by the two to various distributors. In the film, a cartoonist (portrayed in live-action by Rudolf Ising) draws Bosko, who comes to life. Bosko speaks, sings, dances and plays the piano before the cartoonist sucks him into his ink pen and pours him back into the inkwell. Bosko pops out of the bottle and promises to return. Dumb Patrol
''Dumb Patrol'' is a 1964 Warner Bros. ''Looney Tunes'' cartoon short directed by Gerry Chiniquy. It was released on January 18, 1964, and stars Bugs Bunny and Yosemite Sam. Director Gerry Chiniquy was a longtime animator in Friz Freleng's unit. The cartoon is set during World War I opening 'somewhere in France' in 1917, and it also commemorates the 50th anniversary of WWI. The title is an allusion to '' The Dawn Patrol'', a 1930 movie by Howard Hawks that also deals with World War I pilots. The same title was also used for an unrelated, early Looney Tunes short starring Bosko, released in 1931. ''Dumb Patrol'' does not fall into the normal pattern found in most other Bugs Bunny cartoon shorts. Bugs is not disturbed from a serene state as in most of his other shorts. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is a fictional reindeer created by Robert L. May. Piggy is the name of two animated cartoon characters in the ''Merrie Melodies'' series of films distributed by Warner Bros. The first character was a fat, black pig wearing a pair of shorts with two large buttons in the front, and his first film was ''You Don't Know What You're Doin'!'' Piggy's name came from one of two brothers who were childhood classmates of Freleng's, nicknamed "Porky" and "Piggy". Merrie Melodies Animator Rudolf Ising introduced Piggy to replace his previous character, Foxy, as the star of the ''Merrie Melodies'' series Ising was directing for producer Leon Schlesinger. Foxy is an animated cartoon character featured in the first three animated shorts in the '' Merrie Melodies'' series, all distributed by Warner Bros. in 1931. He was the creation of animator Rudolf Ising, who had worked for Walt Disney in the 1920s. Concept and creation In 1925, Hugh Harman drew images of mice on a portrait of Walt Disney, a reminder of Disney's fondness for the rodents living at the Laugh-O-Gram Studio in Kansas City, Missouri.
