Longmorn Distillery
Longmorn distillery is a single malt Scotch, single malt Scotch whisky distillery in Longmorn, Moray, within the Strathspey, Scotland, Strathspey whisky producing area of Scotland. History The Longmorn Distillery Company was founded in 1893 by John Duff, Charles Shirres and George Thomson. Duff was a former manager of the Glendronach Distillery and the Bon Accord Distillery in Aberdeen, and was the founder of the Glenlossie Distillery, as well as being involved with unsuccessful distilleries in Cape Town and the USA. Longmorn Distillery started production in December 1894. Three years later John Duff built the Benriach Distillery next to Longmorn, but both were affected by the collapse of wholesale buyers Pattison's whisky, Pattison, Elder and Co. in 1898. Duff was ruined by the collapse, and Longmorn Distilleries Company Ltd. passed through a variety of ownerships. Longmorn
Longmorn ( gd, Lann M'Eàrnain, St Earnain's Church) is a village in Moray, Scotland, famous for its malt whisky distilleries. It lies approximately south of Elgin, Moray, Elgin, on the main road from Elgin to Rothes. This village was once a small railway junction, and the beginning of the Birnie Distillery rail spur; the now disused Elgin to Craigellachie, Moray, Craigellachie line then continued south to Aviemore and beyond. Longmorn railway station, Longmorn station and its platform still survive and are in good condition. While the station house is lived in, the track is long gone. There are currently moves to clear the track to create a cycle path that would link Elgin to the Speyside Way at Craigellachie, Moray, Craigellachie and from there to Aviemore and the National Cycle Network. With a growing number of offerings, such as those produced by an increasing number of microdistilleries, various mechanisms have arisen to provide reviews and opinions of individual varieties of spirits. These events generally use expert panels and blind tastings within specific categories to provide opinions and ratings. These competitions charge an entry fee. Although gold, silver and bronze awards are granted there are no limits as to how many of each may be bestowed. Glen Grant is a distillery founded in 1840 in Rothes, Speyside, that produces single malt Scotch whisky. Previously owned by ''Chivas Brothers Ltd'', best known for their Chivas Regal blended scotch whisky, Glen Grant was purchased by the Italian company Campari Group in December 2005. It is the biggest selling single malt Scotch whisky in Italy. The Glenlivet
The Glenlivet distillery is a distillery near Ballindalloch in Moray, Scotland that produces Single malt whisky, single malt Scotch whisky. It is the oldest legal distillery in the parish of Glenlivet, and the production place of the Scotch whisky, Scottish whisky of the same name. It was founded in 1824 and has operated almost continuously since. The distillery remained open throughout the Great Depression and its only closure came during World War II. The Glenlivet distillery has grown in the post-war period to become one of the biggest single malt distilleries. Pattisons Whisky was a blended Scotch whisky produced by Pattisons Ltd. from 1896 until its bankruptcy in 1898. It is known for its role in the booming scotch whisky market of the late 19th century, and its instrumental role in the market's subsequent collapse. History Pattisons Ltd. started out as a dairy wholesaler in Edinburgh. Seeing an opportunity for much greater profits, they entered the whisky business by forming a blending company in 1887, going public two years later. Strathspey ( gd, Srath Spè, ) is the region around the strath of the River Spey, Scotland, split between the Moray council area and the Badenoch and Strathspey committee area of Highland. The term Strathspey usually refers to the upper part of the strath from the source of the Spey down to the capital, Grantown-on-Spey, whereas the anglicised form, ''Speyside'', refers to the area from Grantown-on-Spey to the mouth of the river at Spey Bay.
