Long Valley (Utah)
The Long Valley of Utah is a longUtah DeLorme Atlas & Gazetteer, p. 58. valley located in western Kane County. The valley is located in source water regions of waters flowing north, south, and southwest, in the west of the '' High Plateaus section'' of the Colorado Plateau; the High Plateaus section also extends into northern Arizona, the region north of the Grand Canyon. Long Valley is on the east border of Kolob Terrace; the forested Markagunt and Paunsaugunt Plateaus border northwest, and northeast. East is a mountain region water divide, and the south-flowing Kanab Creek in its narrow river valley, (a north tributary to the Colorado River). Glendale, Utah
Glendale is a town in Kane County, Utah, United States. The population was 381 at the 2010 census. History Glendale was originally called "Berryville", and under the latter name permanent settlement was first made in 1864. Sources differ whether the town was named for glens and dales near the town site, or after Glendale, Scotland, the native home of a share of the early settlers. Geography Glendale is located in western Kane County at an elevation of in Long Valley, along the East Fork of the Virgin River. Dixie National Forest
Dixie National Forest is a United States National Forest in Utah with headquarters in Cedar City. It occupies almost two million acres (8,000 km²) and stretches for about across southern Utah. The largest national forest in Utah, it straddles the divide between the Great Basin and the Colorado River. In descending order of forestland area it is located in parts of Garfield, Washington, Iron, Kane, Wayne, and Piute counties. The majority (over 55%) of forest acreage lies in Garfield County. State Route 14 (SR-14) is a state highway in southern Utah, running for in Iron and Kane Counties from Cedar City to Long Valley Junction. The highway has been designated the Markagaunt High Plateau Scenic Byway as part of the Utah Scenic Byways program. Orderville is a town in western Kane County, Utah, United States. The population was 577 at the 2010 census. The town was founded and operated under the United Order of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This system allowed the community to flourish for some time, but ultimately ended in 1885. History Distribution of goods and services Orderville was established at the direction of LDS Church president Brigham Young in 1875 specifically to live the United Order, a voluntary form of communal living defined by Joseph Smith. Orderville was settled primarily by destitute refugees from failed settlements on the Muddy River in Nevada. When it was settled, Orderville included of land and contained 18 houses, 19 oxen, 103 cows, 43 horses, 500 sheep, 30 hogs, 400 chickens, and 30,000 feet of lumber.
