Long Gables
The Long Gables () are prominent twin peaks, with heights of , joined by a col, with the lower rock exposures being in the form of steep buttresses. The peaks rise from the main ridge of the Sentinel Range, Ellsworth Mountains, Antarctica between Mount Anderson and Mount Viets. They surmount Burdenis Glacier to the southeast, Gerila Glacier to the east and Fonfon Glacier to the northeast. The peaks were discovered by the Marie Byrd Land Traverse party of 1957–58 under Charles R. Bentley, and were named for Jack B. Long. Jack Long was a member of the Marie Byrd Land Traverse party and a participant in many oversnow traverses and other Antarctic research activities in the following decade. Sentinel Range
The Sentinel Range is a major mountain range situated northward of Minnesota Glacier and forming the northern half of the Ellsworth Mountains in Antarctica. The range trends NNW-SSE for about and is 24 to 48 km (15 to 30 mi) wide. Ellsworth Mountains
The Ellsworth Mountains are the highest mountain ranges in Antarctica, forming a long and wide chain of mountains in a north to south configuration on the western margin of the Ronne Ice Shelf in Marie Byrd Land. They are bisected by Minnesota Glacier to form the Sentinel Range to the north and the Heritage Range to the south. Mount Anderson (Antarctica)
Mount Anderson is a high mountain in the northern part of the Sentinel Range in Ellsworth Mountains, Antarctica. Probuda Ridge is trending northeast of the peak, and Embree Glacier and Ellen Glacier's tributary Fonfon Glacier drain its northeastern and eastern slopes respectively. It is part of the same massif as Mount Bentley and Mount Sisu. The mountain was discovered by the Marie Byrd Land Traverse Party, 1957–58, under Charles R. Bentley, and named for Vernon H. Anderson, glaciologist at Byrd Station, 1957, a member of the party. Mount Viets
Mount Viets () is a sharp pyramidal mountain over 3,600 m, standing north of Mount Giovinetto in the main ridge of the Sentinel Range, Ellsworth Mountains. It surmounts Delyo Glacier to the east and Burdenis Glacier to the northeast. The mountain was discovered by the Marie Byrd Land Traverse party of 1957–58 under Charles R. Bentley. It was named for Ronald L. Viets, a geophysicist at Little America V Station in 1957. Burdenis Glacier
Burdenis Glacier ( bg, ледник Бурденис, lednik Burdenis, ) is the 6 km long and 1.7 km wide glacier on the east side of the main crest of north-central Sentinel Range in Ellsworth Mountains, Antarctica. It is situated north of Delyo Glacier and south of Gerila Glacier. The glacier drains the north slopes of Mount Viets and the southeast slopes of the southern summit of Long Gables Peak, flows northeastwards and together with Delyo Glacier and Gerila Glacier joins upper Ellen Glacier north of Bruguière Peak. Gerila Glacier ( bg, ледник Герила, lednik Gerila, ) is long and wide glacier on the east side of the main crest of north-central Sentinel Range in Ellsworth Mountains, Antarctica. It is situated north of Burdenis Glacier and south of Fonfon Glacier. The glacier drains the saddle of the twin peak of Long Gables, flows northeastwards and together with Delyo Glacier and Burdenis Glacier joins upper Ellen Glacier north of Bruguière Peak. Fonfon Glacier
Fonfon Glacier ( bg, ледник Фонфон, lednik Fonfon, ) is the 4 km long and 2.3 km wide glacier on the east side of the main crest of north-central Sentinel Range in Ellsworth Mountains, Antarctica. It is situated north of Gerila Glacier and south of the head of Embree Glacier. The glacier drains the northeast slopes of the northern summit of Long Gables Peak and the southeast slopes of Mount Anderson, flows northeastwards and joins upper Ellen Glacier southeast of Eyer Peak. Catherine Destivelle (born 24 July 1960) is a French rock climber and mountaineer who is considered one of the greatest and most important female climbers in the history of the sport. She came to prominence in the mid-1980s for sport climbing by winning the first major female climbing competitions, and by being the first-ever female to redpoint a sport climbing route with ''Fleur de Rocaille'' in 1985, and an route with ''Choucas'' in 1988.
