Long Beach Boulevard is a north–south thoroughfare in Los Angeles County. Geography Long Beach Boulevard starts off as a continuation of Pacific Boulevard south of Cudahy Street in Walnut Park. Long Beach Boulevard passes through South Gate, Lynwood, Compton and Long Beach. It ends at Ocean Boulevard in Long Beach. It crosses intersection with Firestone Boulevard (formerly State Route 42), Interstate 105 (Century Freeway), State Route 91 (Gardena Freeway), Interstate 710 (Long Beach Freeway), Interstate 405 (San Diego Freeway), and State Route 1 (Pacific Coast Highway). History A segment of this street in Long Beach was originally named American Avenue, a name provided by local developer William Willmore. The Long Beach Naval Shipyard (Long Beach NSY or LBNSY), which closed in 1997, was located on Terminal Island between the city of Long Beach and the San Pedro district of Los Angeles, approximately 23 miles south of the Los Angeles International Airport. The primary role of NSY Long Beach at the time of its closure was overhaul and maintenance of conventionally-powered US Navy surface ships, but it also had served as the homeport for several auxiliary ships during its operating history. It is located in the median of Interstate 105 (Century Freeway), above Long Beach Boulevard, after which the station is named, in the city of Lynwood, California. The station is not named for the city of Long Beach, which is located several miles south of this station, and is served by A Line. The original name for the station was Long Beach Blvd/I-105, but was later changed to Long Beach Boulevard. History Prior to the establishment of service on Metro Green Line, the location served as Lynwood depot, a station on the Pacific Electric's Santa Ana Line serving the West Santa Ana Branch. C Line (Los Angeles Metro)
The C Line (formerly the Green Line from 1995 to 2020) is a light rail line running between Redondo Beach and Norwalk within Los Angeles County. It is one of seven lines forming the Los Angeles Metro Rail system, and opened on August 12, 1995. Along the route, the line serves the cities of Downey, El Segundo, Hawthorne, Norwalk and Lynwood, the Los Angeles community of Westchester, and several unincorporated communities in the South Los Angeles region including Athens, Del Aire, and Willowbrook. A free shuttle bus to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is available at the line's Aviation/LAX station.
