London South Collegiate Institute
London South Collegiate Institute (also known as S.C.I., or simply South) is a public high school in London, Ontario, Canada, located at 371 Tecumseh Avenue East. ''South'' is administered by the Thames Valley District School Board. Approximately 600 students attend the school in grades 9-12, which offers a co-op program. There is also a program for gifted students called the ''Academy Program''. The school colours are garnet and grey and the school mascot is the lion. ''South'' is known for its academic rigour, sports teams, and the strength of its arts program, which includes drama, visual arts, music, and dance. It is the only school in the Thames Valley District School Board that offers Latin. The South Collegiate Alumni Association, established in 1999, organizes the school's reunions and alumni events, including annual homecoming events since 2007. London, Ontario
London (pronounced ) is a city in southwestern Ontario, Canada, along the Quebec City–Windsor Corridor. The city had a population of 422,324 according to the 2021 Canadian census. London is at the confluence of the Thames River, approximately from both Toronto and Detroit; and about from Buffalo, New York. The city of London is politically separate from Middlesex County, though it remains the county seat. John Glassford (Canadian Football)
John Glassford is a former award-winning linebacker in the Canadian Football League playing 6 seasons with the Ottawa Rough Riders. A graduate of Wilfrid Laurier University, Glassford played on the Golden Hawks' Yates Cup winning team in 1973. He joined Ottawa in 1977 and played 96 games, never missing a regular season game. In 1981 he played in the classic Grey Cup game, a Rider last second loss to the Edmonton Eskimos and was named Grey Cup Most Valuable Player. In 1981 he had one QB sack, a pass reception for 5 yards and a 2-point convert. He intercepted 2 passes in 1982. Shuman Ghosemajumder (born 1974) is a Canadian technologist, entrepreneur, and author. He is the former click fraud czar at Google, the author of works on technology and business including the Open Music Model, and co-founder of TeachAids. Ray Getliffe
Raymond Getliffe (April 3, 1914 – June 15, 2008) was a Canadian professional ice hockey left winger who played 10 seasons in the National Hockey League for the Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens. Born in Galt, Ontario (now Cambridge, Ontario), he played with the Saint John St. Peters. At the time of his death he was believed to be the oldest living former Montreal Canadiens player. Getliffe's name is on the Stanley Cup twice, for 1939 with Boston and 1944 with Montreal. On February 6, 1943 while playing for the Canadiens he scored five goals in one game. After finishing his playing career, Getliffe briefly officiated in the NHL. Retired from hockey, Getliffe and his wife Lorna remained in Montreal until moving to London, Ontario in 1990, where he grew up. Getliffe died in London of liver cancer at age 94. Robert Ford (poet)
Robert Arthur Douglas Ford, (January 8, 1915 – April 12, 1998) was a Canadian poet, translator and diplomat. Born in Ottawa, Ontario, the son of former '' London Free Press'' Editor-in Chief and University of Western Ontario Chancellor Arthur Ford, he received his B.A. in history and English in 1937 from the University of Western Ontario and a M.A. in history in 1940 from Cornell University. He joined the Department of External Affairs in 1940 and was Ambassador to Colombia (1957 – 1959), Yugoslavia (1959 – 1961), United Arab Republic (1961 – 1963), and to the USSR (1964 – 1980). Ford served as a special representative od Canada at the 1st Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement in Belgrade. In 1971 he was made a Companion of the Order of Canada. Chris Bourke Doty (September 8, 1966 – February 2, 2006) was a Canadian journalist, historian, award-winning documentary filmmaker, author and playwright, noted for his many contributions to the cultural life of his hometown of London, Ontario. Brett Jordan Dier (; born February 14, 1990) is a Canadian actor. He is best known for his role as Michael Cordero Jr. on ''Jane the Virgin''.
