''Loktak Lairembee'' (), also known as Lady of the Lake, is a 2016 Indian Meitei language film directed and produced by Haobam Paban Kumar. It stars Ningthoujam Sanatomba and Sagolsem Thambalsang in the lead roles. The film had participated in many international film festivals across the globe and won several awards. The film won the National Film Award for Best Film on Environment / Conservation / Preservation at the 64th National Film Awards. It is the first Manipuri film to be certified by Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) as a digital film. ''Loktak Lairembee'' is based on Sudhir Naoroibam's short story ''Nongmei''. Meitei Language
Meitei (), also known as Manipuri (, ), is a Tibeto-Burman language of north-eastern India. It is spoken by around 1.8 million people, predominantly in the state of Manipur, but also by smaller communities in the rest of the country and in parts of neighbouring Myanmar and Bangladesh. Haobam Paban Kumar is an Indian filmmaker from state of Manipur. Kumar's films and documentaries have been screened in several places across the globe. Kumar's debut feature film ''Loktak Lairembee'' (Lady of the Lake) won the National Film Award for Best Film on Environment Conservation/Preservation at the 64th National Film Awards 2017. He also won German Star of India at the 14th Indian Film Festival in Stuttgart, Germany for the film in 2017. Shehnad Jalal born 28 June 1978, is a cinematographer based in Kerala, India. After completing his Post Graduation in Commerce from the Kerala University, in 2002, he joined the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI), Kolkata for Post Graduate Diploma in Cinematography. Loktak Ima ( mni, , loktaak eemaa, Mother Loktak), also known as Loktak Lairembi ( mni, , loktaak lairembee, Goddess of Loktak) simply means a "goddess".), is the personification of the Loktak lake, who is revered by the Meitei people as the mother goddess of the sacred waters of the Loktak lake. The National Film Award for Best Film on Environment Conservation/Preservation is one of the categories in the National Film Awards presented annually by the Directorate of Film Festivals, the organisation set up by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in India. Central Board Of Film Certification
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) is a statutory film-certification body in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of the Government of India. It is tasked with "regulating the public exhibition of films under the provisions of the Cinematograph Act 1952." The Cinematograph Act 1952 outlines a strict certification process for commercial films shown in public venues. Films screened in cinemas and on television may only be publicly exhibited in India after certification by the board and edited.
