Lockesburg, Arkansas
Lockesburg is a city in Sevier County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 739 at the 2010 census. History Though Lockesburg became the county seat on January 18, 1869, it was not incorporated until November 7, 1878. The land was donated by three members of a prominent local family--James, William, and Matthew Locke—and one Royal Appleton, for creation of a new county seat after an area of Sevier County was carved away to become part of newly created Little River County, and the existing county seat, Paraclifta, was no longer centrally located. The town’s growth was stunted when a major railroad bypassed the town for De Queen in 1897, along with a subsequent loss of county seat status to De Queen in 1905. Lockesburg High School Gymnasium
The Lockesburg High School Gymnasium is a historic school gymnasium at 128 East Main Street in Lockesburg, Arkansas. Built in 1952–53, it is a utilitarian rectangular building, built out of concrete blocks and resting on a poured concrete foundation. Its main facade is the north side, with a center entrance shaded by an awning, and symmetrically placed porthole windows on either side. Most of the building's interior is taken up by the actual playing area, with tiered bleachers on two sides. The interior finishes are largely original materials. It was built to meet growing post-World War II demand for improved school facilities, and has historically served as a venue for most of the community's larger-scale social events. The school closed in 1968; the building is now owned by Cossatot Community College. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2018. Little Cossatot River Bridge
The Little Cossatot River Bridge is a historic bridge in rural Sevier County, Arkansas. It is located just west of Lockesburg, carrying County Road 139H over the Little Cossatot River. The bridge is a Warren pony truss structure, long, with approaches made of timber stringers. The trusses were built by the Morava Construction Company of Chicago, Illinois, and are believed to be the only of the company's trusses in the state. They feature a top chord that is a solid I-beam, which is connected by riveted plates to the bottom chord. The trusses are set on cylindrical concrete piers on either side of the river. The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990. First United Methodist Church (Lockesburg, Arkansas)
The First United Methodist Church is a historic church east of the junction of 2nd Street and 5th Avenue in Lockesburg, Arkansas. It is a T-shaped structure, with a single-story nave and an asymmetrical -story cross section at the rear of the building. It is framed in wood and clad in brick. Built in 1926, it is the fourth church building to serve a congregation formally established in 1872, and is a particularly well-preserved example of a Gothic Revival structure with Classical and Medieval Revival elements. This distinctive combination of elements is rare in Arkansas church architecture. The church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994. Texarkana Regional Airport , also known as Webb Field, is a public use airport located three nautical miles (6 km) northeast of the central business district of Texarkana, a city in Miller County, Arkansas, United States. It is owned by the Texarkana Airport Authority. The airport is located within the city limits of Texarkana, roughly 3 miles east of State Line Avenue. The front gate opens to the northwest, at the intersection of Arkansas Boulevard and U.S. Route 67. A Union Pacific Railroad line runs parallel to US 67 on the side of the highway facing the airport.
