Lochside Academy
Lochside Academy is a co-educational secondary school in Altens, Aberdeen, run by Aberdeen City Council. Its feeder primary schools are Abbotswell School, Charleston School, Kirkhill School, Loirston School, Tullos School, and Walker Road School. It serves secondary age pupils in the Cove Bay, Kincorth, Torry, and Nigg areas of Aberdeen. It opened in August 2018, at the start of the new school year. History The £47 million Lochside Academy was built on the site of Calder Park at Redmoss as a replacement for secondary schools in Torry and Kincorth, which both closed in July 2018. Lochside's catchment area covers all pupils that would have previously attended those schools. The school building contains a swimming pool, dance studio, sports pitches, games halls and a library. Altens is a district in the city of Aberdeen, on the north-east coast of Scotland. Altens is home to a large industrial estate, alongside a similar estate in neighbouring Tullos. The industrial estates have offices, including a large facility built for Royal Dutch Shell, as well as industrial units of various sizes, including the Royal Mail's main mail centre for the North East of Scotland. There are also warehouses, car dealerships, and a civic amenity site. The area is also home to one of three North East Scotland College campuses in Aberdeen City. Cove Bay
Cove Bay, known locally as Cove, is a suburb on the south-east edge of Aberdeen, Scotland. Today Cove is home to around 8,000 people. It is a popular residential location owing to its village-like status. It is a quiet suburb at the Southern edge of Aberdeen City and in 2015 won the Silver award for Scotland in bloom. Kincorth
Kincorth is a suburb located to the south of Aberdeen, Scotland. The name is a corruption of the Scottish Gaelic "Ceann Coirthe", which probably refers to an old pillar or standing stone (''coirthe''). Kincorth is known as the garden estate of Aberdeen, and its plan originated in a competition launched in 1936 and won by Robert Gardner-Medwin, Denis Winston and Clifford Holliday. Torry
Torry is an area within the city of Aberdeen, Scotland. Torry’s origins People have been living in Torry since at least the 12th century. The place name first appears in written records in 1484 and was erected a Burgh of barony by Royal Charter from King James IV in 1495. The first bridge over the Dee linking Torry with Aberdeen was built in the 1520s and Torry’s first pub, ‘le Sandy Velle’, is recorded in 1535, serving travellers from Aberdeen. Over time development in the area became focussed what became known as ‘Old Torry’, a fishing community on the south bank of the River Dee, to the north of present day Sinclair Road. Nigg, Aberdeen
Nigg is an area of Aberdeen, Scotland, south of the River Dee. It has a population of 16,500 (2019 estimate). The area has a bay known as the ''Bay of Nigg'' or Nigg Bay, immediately south of a coastal golf course, and a farm that is also a visitor attraction, known as Doonies Farm. Torry Academy
Torry Academy was a secondary school in Torry, Aberdeen, run by Aberdeen City Council. The original school was built in 1927 and added to in 1947, creating the granite part of the school building. The school was extended in the late 1970s on the site of The Moundie to create an additional 3-storey block. Torry Academy was closed on July 6, 2018, prior to the opening of the new £47 million Lochside Academy in Altens Altens is a district in the city of Aberdeen, on the north-east coast of Scotland.
