Loango, Alabama
Loango is an unincorporated community in Covington County, Alabama, United States. History A post office operated under the name Loango between 1856 and 1907. The maternal great-great-grandparents of Bill Clinton are buried in the Old Loango Cemetery. Name The local explanation for the town name, is that it comes from a combination of the words ''load'', ''and'', and ''go''. A more probable source is the Loango Coast and the port of Loango, Republic of Congo, a major source of slaves before the outlawing of the trans-Atlantic slave trade. Covington County (briefly Jones County), is a county located in the south central portion of the U.S. state of Alabama. As of the 2020 census the population was 37,570. Its county seat is Andalusia. Its name is in honor of Brigadier General Leonard Covington of Maryland and Mississippi, who died in the War of 1812. History Covington County was established on December 17, 1821. Area code 334 is a telephone area code in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) for southeastern Alabama. It was created on January 15, 1995, in an area code split from area code 205. and was the first new area code in Alabama since the implementation of area codes in 1947. To permit a transition period for the reconfiguration of equipment, such as computers and fax machines, use of area code 205 continued in the 334 region through May 13, 1995. The numbering plan area (NPA) comprises the Montgomery, Auburn-Opelika, and Dothan metropolitan areas, as well as Phenix City and the Alabama side of the Columbus, Georgia metro area. Tuscaloosa ( ) is a city in and the seat of Tuscaloosa County in west-central Alabama, United States, on the Black Warrior River where the Gulf Coastal and Piedmont plains meet. Loango, Republic Of Congo
Loango is a settlement near the coast of the Republic of the Congo. Location Loango is in the Loandjili (Pointe Noire) District, Kouilou Department, on the coast to the southwest of Diosso. It is a few kilometers north of the city of Pointe-Noire. The town is halfway between Point-Noire and Madingo-Kayes, and since 2002 has been the capital of the Kouilou region. History Diosso was the former capital of the Kingdom of Loango and home to its rulers' mausoleum. Roman Catholic missionaries were active in Diosso, which had a royal palace. The port of Loango was formerly a major slavery port, but the site has now been abandoned and few traces remain.
