Yamanto is a suburb of Ipswich in the City of Ipswich, Queensland, Australia. At the 2016 Australian census the suburb recorded a population of 4,906. History The origin of the suburb is from a former 1860s cotton plantation which was originally spelt as 'Yamahanto', the property jointly owned by Queensland's first government medical officer Henry Challinor (1814–1882) and his cousin George Miles Challinor (1832–1888). Previous names used for this area were Mine Accident, Loamside and Yahmahnto. The names were given to the railway station in the Yamanto area on the now defunct Dugandan railway line. On 1 January 2010, Amberley State School relocated and renamed as Amberley District State School at Yamanto. The school originally opened in 1863 under the name Warrill Creek State School and was renamed Amberley State School in 1903. Amberley is a suburb in the City of Ipswich, Queensland, Australia. In the , Amberley had a population of 253 people. Geography Australia's biggest air force base, the RAAF Base Amberley is situated here and the Bureau of Meteorology has a weather observation station in Amberley. To the south of Amberley is the Fassifern Valley. The Jeebropilly coal mine is located just to the west of Amberley. History The suburb is named after Amberley in the United Kingdom. RAAF Base Amberley
RAAF Base Amberley is a Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) military airbase located southwest of Ipswich, Queensland in Australia and southwest of Brisbane CBD. It is currently home to No. 1 Squadron (operating the F/A-18F Super Hornet), No. 6 Squadron (operating the EA-18G Growler), No. 33 Squadron (operating the Airbus KC-30A), No. 35 Squadron (operating the C-27J Spartan) and No. 36 Squadron (operating the Boeing C-17 Globemaster III). Amberley is also home to Army units making up the 9th Force Support Battalion (9 FSB). Located on , RAAF Amberley is the largest operational base in the RAAF, employing over 5,000 uniformed and civilian personnel. Ecco Ripley is a master-planned community in the City of Ipswich, Queensland, Australia. It will be Queensland's biggest housing development and Australia's largest-ever master planned community. The site lies in the northern foothills of the Flinders Peak Group in the Bundamba Creek water catchment about five kilometres south of the centre of Ipswich. It includes development of the existing suburbs of Deebing Heights and rural Ripley. The Green Building Council of Australia rated the Ecco Ripley development with a Green Star, a first in Queensland. Dugandan Railway Line
The Dugandan railway line was a branch railway in the Scenic Rim region of South East Queensland, Australia. It was also known as the Fassifern railway line. It operated from 1882 to 1964. Geography The line began west of Ipswich station on the Main Line 39 km west of Brisbane and proceeded generally southward for approximately 50 km to the locality of Dugandan now part of the urban settlement of Boonah. History Residents in the Fassifern Valley petitioned the Queensland Government to build a railway line to their district, and the first section was opened on 10 July 1882 as far as Harrisville. This is considered to be Queensland's first branch railway. The branch was extended to Dugandan on 12 September 1887. The Mount Edwards branch line branched off the Dugandan line at Munbilla. Henry Challinor
Henry Challinor (22 June 1814 – 9 September 1882) was a physician and politician in the Colony of Queensland. Early life Challinor was born in London, England. Studying medicine in London, where he became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1842, he emigrated to Queensland in 1849 aboard the , on which he served as the ship's doctor. By April 1849, he had established a medical practice in Ipswich, where he later spent much of his life. Church life Dr Challinor was a founding deacon of the Central Congregational Church of Ipswich, appointed 25 April 1853. The church was a fiercely independent denomination refusing to accept any government subsidies or land grants. The 2016 Australian census was the 17th national population census held in Australia. The census was officially conducted with effect on Tuesday, 9 August 2016.
