Lleulleu Lake
Lleulleu Lake is a Chilean lake located in the BÃo BÃo Region. It is located on the western slope of the Cordillera de Nahuelbuta, administratively divided between the communes of Contulmo to the north and Tirúa to the south. It has an area of 4300 hectares. Cordillera De Nahuelbuta
The Nahuelbuta Range or Cordillera de Nahuelbuta () is a mountain range in Bio-Bio and Araucania Region, southern Chile. It is located along the Pacific coast and forms part of the larger Chilean Coast Range. The name of the range derives from the Mapudungun words ''nahuel'' (jaguar) and ''futa'' (big) Historically Cordillera de Nahuelbuta and its surrounding valleys were the foci of the Arauco War. The Spanish designs for this region was to exploit the placer deposits of gold around the range using unfree Mapuche labour from the densely populated valleys. For this purpose the Spanish established a series of settlements and fortified houses around Cordillera de Nahuelbuta. Contulmo
Contulmo ( Mapudungun: "place of transit") is a Chilean town and commune in Arauco Province, BiobÃo Region. Colonized by Germans of Berlin since 1884. Geography Contulmo spans an area of It is bordered by the commune of Cañete to the north and northwest, Tirúa to the southwest, Purén to the east and Lumaco to the southeast. The commune includes part of the lakes Lanalhue and Lleulleu. The town of Contulmo is surrounded by mountains and hills of the Nahuelbuta Range. Demographics According to the 2002 census of the National Statistics Institute, Contulmo has 5,838 inhabitants (3,020 men and 2,818 women). Tirúa
Tirúa () is a Chilean commune and town in Arauco Province, BiobÃo Region. The 2010 Chile earthquake led to a permanent uplift of Tirúa of about 180 cm above sea level, the highest recorded uplift related to the earthquake. This caused a large islet to form at the mouth of Tirúa River next to the town. The Misión Jesuita Mapuche is based in Tirúa. Demographics According to the 2002 census of the National Statistics Institute, Tirúa spans an area of and has 9,664 inhabitants (5,028 men and 4,636 women). Of these, 2,508 (26%) lived in urban areas and 7,156 (74%) in rural areas. Between the 1992 and 2002 censuses, the population grew by 10.6% (928 persons).
