Liz Magill
Mary Elizabeth Magill (born 1966) is an American legal scholar and academic administrator. She served as the 9th president of the University of Pennsylvania from 2022 to 2023, executive vice president and provost of the University of Virginia from 2019 to 2022, and dean of Stanford Law School from 2012 to 2019. Early life and education A native of Fargo, North Dakota, Magill is the daughter of Frank Magill, a senior United States federal judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. Her brother, Frank Magill Jr., is a District Judge in Minnesota's Fourth Judicial District. Magill received a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Yale University in 1988, where she served as the head of the Yale College Democrats. The American Law Institute (ALI) is a research and advocacy group of judges, lawyers, and legal scholars established in 1923 to promote the clarification and simplification of United States common law and its adaptation to changing social needs.
