Liz Evans (politician)
The Welsh Liberal Democrats leadership election took place during the autumn of 2017 and was won by Jane Dodds, who defeated Ceredigion Councillor Elizabeth Evans in a closely fought contest. Following the 2017 general election the party's leader, and only MP, Mark Williams lost his Ceredigion seat by 104 votes. Because of this he stood down as leader later that day. His predecessor as leader, Kirsty Williams Victoria Kirstyn Williams (born 19 March 1971) is a Welsh politician who served as Minister for Education in the Welsh Government from 2016 to 2021. She was a Member of the Senedd (MS) from 1999 to 2021. She previously served as the Leader of ..., took over as interim leader, but announced she wouldn't be a candidate in the forthcoming leadership election. 2016 Welsh Liberal Democrats Leadership Election
The 2016 Welsh Liberal Democrats leadership election took place following the resignation of Kirsty Williams following the 2016 National Assembly for Wales election, 2016 elections to the Welsh Assembly where the Welsh Liberal Democrats fell from five seats to one. Kirsty Williams resigned on 6 May 2016 with Mark Williams being appointed acting leader that evening before being confirmed as leader by the party's National Executive Committee the following day. Williams went on to serve as leader for a little over a year until his resignation in June 2017. The London Borough of Richmond upon Thames () in southwest London forms part of Outer London and is the only London borough on both sides of the River Thames. It was created in 1965 when three smaller council areas amalgamated under the London Government Act 1963. Peter Malcolm Black is a Welsh Liberal Democrat politician, and was a Member of the Welsh Assembly for the South Wales West Region between 1999 and 2016. Political career A Councillor for the Cwmbwrla ward on City and County of Swansea Council, he was leader of the Liberal Democrat Group 1984–99. He is a past Chair of the Welsh Liberal Democrats and of the party's Finance and Administration Committee. Black fought Swansea East at the Assembly elections in 1999 and 2003, but entered the Assembly as the lead candidate on the Welsh Liberal Democrat regional list for South Wales West. Ceredigion is a constituency of the Senedd. It elects one Member of the Senedd by the first past the post method of election. Aberaeron
Aberaeron, previously anglicised as Aberayron, is a town, community, and electoral ward between Aberystwyth and Cardigan, in Ceredigion, Wales. Ceredigion County Council offices are in Aberaeron. The name of the town is Welsh for ''mouth of the Aeron'', derived from the Middle Welsh ', "slaughter", which gave its name to Aeron, who is believed to have been a Welsh god of war. The population was 1,520 in 2001, and 1,422 in 2011. History and design In 1800, there was no significant coastal settlement here. The present town was planned and developed from 1805 by the Rev. Alban Thomas Jones Gwynne. He built a harbour which operated as a port and supported a shipbuilding industry in the 19th century. Donald Martin Thomas, Baron Thomas of Gresford, (born 13 March 1937) is a British Liberal Democrat politician. Born the son of a Llangollen policeman, he was educated at Grove Park Grammar School, Wrexham, and at Peterhouse, Cambridge, he graduated with an LLB in Law and an MA in Classics. He practised as a solicitor in Wrexham from 1961 to 1966 before becoming a lecturer in law. He was called to the bar at Gray's Inn in 1967, and was appointed a QC in 1979. He became a deputy circuit judge in 1974, a Crown Court Recorder in 1976, and a Deputy High Court judge in 1995. Having been appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 1982 Birthday Honours, Thomas was created a Life Peer as Baron Thomas of Gresford, of Gresford in the County Borough of Wrexham on 30 September 1996, whereupon he took the Liberal Democrat Whip. Joan Margaret Walmsley, Baroness Walmsley (born 12 April 1943) is a British Liberal Democrat politician. She is currently the deputy leader of the Liberal Democrats in the House of Lords. Biography She was educated at Notre Dame High School in Liverpool, before attending Liverpool University from where she graduated with a BSc in Biology in 1966, and later completed a PGCE at Manchester Polytechnic in 1979. She worked as a cytologist at the Christie Hospital in Manchester from 1965 to 1967 and taught at Buxton College from 1979 to 1986. She went into public relations and worked for Hill & Knowlton until 1996, then began her own PR consultancy which she closed in 2003. Jennifer Elizabeth Randerson, Baroness Randerson (born 26 May 1948) is a Welsh Liberal Democrat member of the House of Lords. Jane Dodds
Jane Dodds MS (born 13 September 1963) is a Welsh politician who has served as Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats since 2017. She was elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Brecon and Radnorshire at the seat's 2019 by-election, but was an MP for only three months before being defeated in the general election later the same year. In May 2021, Dodds was elected to the Senedd on the Mid and West Wales list. This made her the only Welsh Liberal Democrat Member of the Senedd (MS) in the 6th Senedd. Early and personal life Dodds was born and raised in a Welsh-speaking family in Wrexham, North Wales. She attended Ysgol Morgan Llwyd before studying social care at Cardiff University. After university she trained to become a social worker, and worked for the Salvation Army in Child Protective Services for 27 years before being elected.
