Liverpool Revisited
"Liverpool Revisited" is a song by the Manic Street Preachers, it was the fourth single taken from their album '' Resistance Is Futile''. Written by Nicky Wire, it was released on 6 April 2018. Writing and context The song is an attempt to eulogise the Merseyside city and give a salute to the defiance and perseverance of those who lost their loved ones in the Hillsborough disaster. According to Bradfield, Wire wrote all components of the song: "It's about the 'Justice For The Victims Of Hillsborough' campaign. Manic Street Preachers
Manic Street Preachers, also known simply as the Manics, are a Welsh Rock music, rock band formed in Blackwood, Caerphilly, Blackwood in 1986. The band consists of cousins James Dean Bradfield (lead vocals, lead guitar) and Sean Moore (musician), Sean Moore (drums, percussion, soundscapes), plus Nicky Wire (bass guitar, lyrics). They form a key part of the 1990s Welsh Cool Cymru cultural movement. Following the release of their debut single "Suicide Alley", Manic Street Preachers were joined by Richey Edwards as co-lyricist and rhythm guitarist, the band became as a quartet. Hillsborough Disaster
The Hillsborough disaster was a fatal human crush during a football match at Hillsborough Stadium in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England, on 15 April 1989. It occurred during an FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest in the two standing-only central pens in the Leppings Lane stand allocated to Liverpool supporters. Shortly before kick-off, in an attempt to ease overcrowding outside the entrance turnstiles, the police match commander, David Duckenfield, ordered exit gate C to be opened, leading to an influx of supporters entering the pens. This resulted in overcrowding of those pens and the crush. With 97 deaths and 766 injuries, it has the highest death toll in British sporting history. Ninety-four people died on the day; another person died in hospital days later, and another victim died in 1993. ''Resistance Is Futile'' is the thirteenth album by Welsh alternative rock band Manic Street Preachers. It was released on 13 April 2018 through Columbia Records. Supported by six singles, the most since their debut, the album was received with positive reviews from music critics. It debuted and peaked at number 2 on the UK Albums Chart. Writing and recording Early in 2017 Kieran Evans said that he was not working on the new album with the band, and that he had heard two new songs that sounded "very, very melodious"; the album was expected to be released later in 2017, but then they had to move to a new studio and it got pushed back. Band member Nicky Wire said that this was a very long gap for the group, and if the new songs were not good enough they would not come out. "Hold Me Like a Heaven" is a song by the Manic Street Preachers, the single, it was the fifth taken from the album '' Resistance Is Futile'', was released on 4 May 2018. Background and reception The song was inspired musically by David Bowie's " Ashes to Ashes" with lyrics informed by the work of Philip Larkin. Nicky Wire explains: "This track sprung from reading Lines on a Young Lady's Photograph Album by Phillip Larkin, and his poem Aubade as well. It was the last lyric written for the record and I knew it had to be special. It's got one of my favourite ever lines, which is 'what is the future of the future/when memory fades and gets boarded up'. We’ve long been obsessed with writing something like Ashes to Ashes; I think this is the closest we'll ever get".
