Liverpool Buccaneers
Liverpool Buccaneers Rugby League Football Club are an amateur rugby league club from West Derby in Liverpool. The team plays home games at Sefton RUFC in West Derby. Currently they play in the North West Premier division of the Rugby League Conference and the North West Merit League. History The team was formed in the winter of 2002. They joined the North West Division of the Rugby League Conference in 2003. In the 2006 season they won both the Cheshire Division and subsequently went on to win the RLC Regional Grand Final however in the 2007 season they ended up top of the North West Division but narrowly lost to Widnes Saints in the Regional Grand Final. Jolly Roger
Jolly Roger is the traditional English name for the flags flown to identify a pirate ship preceding or during an attack, during the early 18th century (the later part of the Golden Age of Piracy). The flag most commonly identified as the Jolly Roger today — the skull and crossbones symbol on a black flag — was used during the 1710s by a number of pirate captains including Black Sam Bellamy, Edward England, and John Taylor. It went on to become the most commonly used pirate flag during the 1720s, although other designs were also in use. Rugby League Conference North West Premier
The Rugby League Conference North West Premier is a division in the Rugby League Conference for teams in the North West of England. It was first contested in 2008 following the break-up of the previous North Premier into the North West and Yorkshire Premiers. History The Rugby League Conference was born in 1997 as the Southern Conference, a 10-team pilot league for teams in the South of England and English Midlands. The first North West team to join the new league were the Chester Wolves; more teams from the North West joined the following season and a Northern Division was set up with teams from the North West and the North Midlands. West Derby ( ) is an affluent suburb of Liverpool, England. It is located East of the city and is also a Liverpool City Council ward. At the 2011 Census, the population was 14,382. Sefton Rugby Union Football Club is an amateur rugby union team who are based in Liverpool, England. Sefton, is the oldest established Rugby Union Club in Liverpool. Situated in the West Derby district of the city, the Club can now claim to field sides from all age groups most weeks of the season. Current squad Location Sefton RUFC Is located on Thornhead lane in the West Derby area of Liverpool Just of Leyfield Road. The clubhouse has had a lot of work done to it in recent years. Most notably including the installation of a brand new kitchen and flooring throughout the changing rooms. The club also has its own carpark that is capable of holding all the cars visiting on busy match days. Sefton has three rugby pitches that are maintained throughout the year. currently two of those pitches are equipped with full pitch flood lights and there are plans to get the third pitch flood lit too. The Rugby League Conference (RLC) (also known as the Co-operative Rugby League Conference as a result of sponsorship from The Co-operative Group), was a series of regionally based divisions of amateur rugby league teams spread throughout England, Scotland and Wales. The RLC was founded as the 10-team Southern Conference League in 1997, with teams from the southern midlands and the south east, but has subsequently, rebranded and expanded both geographically and numerically to include around 90 teams stretched across almost the whole of Great Britain from Aberdeen in northern Scotland down to Plymouth on the south coast of England. The aim of the RLC was initially to provide regular fixtures for new clubs based outside the 'heartland' of rugby league, although as the playing standards increased, it also accepted teams from the 'heartlands'. North West Merit League
The North West Merit League is a rugby league competition for clubs in the North West of England. It is a feeder league for the Rugby League Conference. History The Midlands Merit League was founded in late 2005 to support the growth of rugby league in non-heartland areas. Originally intended as a stand-alone league, support from the Rugby Football League meant that it could be administered as part of the Rugby League Conference set-up. Interest quickly gathered with 13 teams showing an interest in participating in the inaugural season - 8 eventually participated. The first ever game took place on 8 April 2006 at All Saints Sports College, Sheffield, where the Sheffield Forgers beat the Chesterfield Spires by 58 points to 8. Widnes Saints
Widnes Saints are a rugby league team based in Widnes, Cheshire. They play in the North West Premier Division of the Rugby League Conference. History Widnes Saints were formed in 2004 operating from the Widnes St Maries premises. The club joined the North West Division of the Rugby League Conference. The first season was a success with the Saints winning their Division and the Harry Jepson Trophy at their first attempt at the Conference Grand Final against West London Sharks. After two relatively poor seasons the Saints turned things round with the use of some of youth players produced by Widnes St Maries blending with some of the more experienced players from around the borough. The 2007 Season saw the Saints finish second in the North West Division behind Liverpool Buccaneers but the Saints managed to overturn them in the play-offs to win the division title.
