Live At Kunsthalle Düsseldorf
''Live at Kunsthalle Düsseldorf'' is a double-disc live album by German band La! Neu? released in 2001, after the band had split up. It consists of a recording of their final concert, held at Kunsthalle Düsseldorf on 19 July 1998. Immediately after the concert, the band disbanded amicably (in part due to pressure from Klaus Dinger's ex-bandmate Michael Rother, who resented Dinger's use of the word "Neu!" in La! Neu?'s name). Concert and release The concert was organised by Dinger's friends in the Düsseldorf academic community - for example Dr. Ralf Gawlista, who managed Dinger's website. It was to be the only concert La! Neu? would ever play in Germany (they toured Japan in 1996) as well as the band's final performance together (at least under the La! Neu? name). Thomas Dinger (28 October 1952 — 9 April 2002) was a German drummer, singer and songwriter who was active in solo pursuits in addition to having been a member of Neu! and La Düsseldorf, both with his brother Klaus Dinger, and 1-A Düsseldorf. Japandorf
''Japandorf'' is a 2013 album by Klaus Dinger and several other musicians, released under the name "''Klaus Dinger + Japandorf''" by Grönland Records. It was recorded in the year before Dinger's death on Good Friday 2008 and is the only one of three albums made since 1998 to have been released. It was originally intended to be released as a La Düsseldorf album, but this was blocked at the last minute by Hans Lampe, the band's original drummer. Background and recording In July 1998 Dinger disbanded La! Neu? after a final concert in Düsseldorf. After the concert he was approached by a Japanese artist named Masaki Nakao, who had moved to Düsseldorf from Japan in 1989. Over the next ten years Nakao and Dinger became close friends, and in 1999 Nakao introduced Dinger to a group of Japanese musicians living in Düsseldorf. Goldregen
''Goldregen'' (Gold Rain) is the third album released in 1998 by German band La! Neu?. Like the previous year's ''Zeeland'', ''Goldregen'' takes the form of a series of spontaneous jams, quickly recorded and mastered. Unlike ''Zeeland'', ''Goldregen'' is entirely acoustic, containing only piano, violin, harmonium, drums and vocals. Unlike most other albums released by Klaus Dinger it is quiet and meditative rather than aggressive or abrasive; its low key and low-fi values arguable align it with ambient music. Background and recording The album title is a play on words. The cover painting depicts a laburnum plant, which in German is called ''goldregen''. Klaus Dinger's grand piano was made by a company called "Goldregen". ''Avantgarde History'' is a CD-R compilation album created by Eberhard Kranemann of his work with artists such as Neu! and Joseph Beuys in the late 1960s and early 1970s. It was released privately and is only available on request. Bands Pissoff Pissoff was a band founded in the late 1960s by Kranemann and some friends. Eberhard had studied under Beuys, and the artist is featured with Pissoff on the first track, recorded in Düsseldorf's Creamcheese club. Shortly after this recording, Florian Schneider joined the band. An unedited version of this track was also released separately by Kranemann. The Origins of Kraftwerk This is a retrospectively named ensemble consisting of Schneider and Kranemann, both of whom would go on to play in the band Kraftwerk. The three jams were recorded in 1967. ''Year of the Tiger'' is the sixth album released by German band La! Neu?. Like its sister-album ''Goldregen'' it was recorded and released relatively quickly in 1997-8. Unlike ''Goldregen'' – which featured only acoustic instruments – ''Year of the Tiger'' is predominantly electronic and beat-driven. The entire album is performed live on the CD ''Live at Kunsthalle Düsseldorf''. Background and recording The album is named for a phrase used in a postcard sent by an American fan named George to Klaus Dinger in 1998, referring to the zodiac calendar, according to which the Year of the Tiger began on 28 January 1998. The back of the postcard features on the cover artwork. Recording began in October 1997, after La! Neu?'s pianist Rembrandt Lensink (whose album '' Rembrandt: God Strikes Back'' was released in January 1998) presented Dinger with a lengthy synthesizer piece which could not fit on his own album. Neu!
Neu! (; German for "New!"; styled in block capitals) were a West German krautrock band formed in Düsseldorf in 1971 by Klaus Dinger and Michael Rother following their departure from Kraftwerk. The group's albums were produced by Conny Plank, who has been regarded as the group's "hidden member". They released three albums in their initial incarnation—''Neu!'' (1972), ''Neu! 2'' (1973), and ''Neu! 75'' (1975)—before disbanding in 1975. They briefly reunited in the mid-1980s. Though Neu! had minimal commercial success during their existence, the band are retrospectively considered a central act of West Germany's 1970s krautrock movement. Michael Rother
Michael Rother (born 2 September 1950) is a German experimental musician, best known for being a founding member of the influential bands Neu! and Harmonia (band), Harmonia, and an early member of the band Kraftwerk. Early life and education Born in 1950, Rother was educated in Munich, Wilmslow (England), Karachi, and Düsseldorf. He also resided in Pakistan in the early 1960s where he was exposed to Pakistani music that would influence his own music in the late 1960s and early 1970s. From 1965 Rother played in the band Spirits of Sound, from which other members would later go on to join Kraftwerk (Wolfgang Flür) and Wunderbar.
