''Live AIDS'' is a 7" single by The Rebel that was released in Summer 2008. The limited edition clear gold single is the first release from Montreal "weird punk" label 'Kanker Mongool'. The title is both a play on Live Aid, as well as a nod to The Rebel's tour mates, AIDS Wolf, of which both Kanker Mongool creators, Yannick Desranleau and Chloe Lum, are members. The album also features silkscreened artwork from Desranleau and Lum's design company, Seripop Seripop refers to the art duo Chloe Lum and Yannick Desranleau, who have collaborated on album covers, prints, book illustrations, and installations. Ben Wallers
Benedict Roger Wallers, also known as The Rebel, is the frontman, guitarist, vocalist and songwriter for the band Country Teasers. His lyrics often deal with taboo subjects such as racism, sexism and xenophobia from first-person standpoints. Biography Wallers has been releasing music under various guises since 1995. He is best known for being part of the group ''Country Teasers'', formed in Scotland in the mid 1990s. Wallers is generally regarded to be Scottish, but various places of birth have been put forward, including Saville Row, London and St Albans, Hertfordshire (according to his autobiography). Country Teasers bassist Sophie Politowicz plays drums in live performances and features on various Rebel recordings. The pair also play together in the band ''The Devil''. Art punk is a subgenre of punk rock in which artists go beyond the genre's rudimentary garage rock and are considered more sophisticated than their peers. Live Aid
Live Aid was a multi-venue benefit concert held on Saturday 13 July 1985, as well as a music-based fundraising initiative. The original event was organised by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise further funds for relief of the 1983–1985 famine in Ethiopia, a movement that started with the release of the successful charity single "Do They Know It's Christmas?" in December 1984. Billed as the "global jukebox", Live Aid was held simultaneously at Wembley Stadium in London, attended by about 72,000 people, and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, attended by 89,484 people. On the same day, concerts inspired by the initiative were held in other countries, such as the Soviet Union, Canada, Japan, Yugoslavia, Austria, Australia and West Germany. AIDS Wolf
__NOTOC__ AIDS Wolf was a Canadian noise rock band, founded in Montreal in 2003, by the graphic arts team of Chloe Lum (aka Special Deluxe) and Yannick Desranleau (aka Hiroshima Thunder), otherwise known as Seripop. They were joined by Myles Broscoe (late of Arcade Fire), Chris Taylor (aka Barbarian Destroyer), Nick Kuepfer, André Guérette (aka Him, the Maji), and Alex Moskos. The band was known for playing modified consumer electronics and analog synthesizers, for giving creative names to instruments, and for being “weird for the sake of being weird.” On their label's band page, they stated "We are a fucking cult and will cause you harm and ill will," then added "The 9 Principles of AIDS Wolf". Silkscreen
Screen printing is a printing technique where a mesh is used to transfer ink (or dye) onto a substrate, except in areas made impermeable to the ink by a blocking stencil. A blade or squeegee is moved across the screen to fill the open mesh apertures with ink, and a reverse stroke then causes the screen to touch the substrate momentarily along a line of contact. This causes the ink to wet the substrate and be pulled out of the mesh apertures as the screen springs back after the blade has passed. One colour is printed at a time, so several screens can be used to produce a multi-coloured image or design. Traditionally, silk was used in the process. Seripop
Seripop refers to the art duo Chloe Lum and Yannick Desranleau, who have collaborated on album covers, prints, book illustrations, and installations. The name Seripop is short for ''Serigraphie Populaire'', French for "Popular Screenprinting". Seripop is based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Biographies Lum and Desranleau met in the underground noise music scene of Montreal, eventually forming their first band Electric End. They began making their hand-printed posters as a way to attract people to their shows, but then eventually dropped out of art school in the early 2000s to make tour posters for six bands' entire tours, resulting in 25 to 45 posters for each band.
