Lithuania In The Eurovision Song Contest 2001
Lithuania participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2001 in Copenhagen. SKAMP represented Lithuania with the song "You Got Style". They finished in 13th place with 35 points. Before Eurovision "Eurovizijos" dainų konkurso nacionalinė atranka The final of the competition took place on 9 March 2001 at the Palace of Sports and Culture in Vilnius, hosted by Neringa Svetikaitė and Darius Užkuraitis. The winner was determined by the combination of votes from a jury panel (50%), the audience present in the hall (25%) and public televoting (25%). "You Got Style" performed by SKAMP was selected as the winner. In addition to the performances of the competing entries, 2001 Latvian Eurovision entrant Arnis Mednis performed as special guest. At Eurovision SKAMP performed 8th in the night, following Sweden and preceding Latvia. SKAMP scored 35 points, placing Lithuania 13th out of 23 entries. The Baltic News Service (BNS) is the largest news agency operating in the Baltic states. Founded in April, 1990, by a group of students (the founding CEO was Allan Martinson), it sought to inform foreign correspondents in Moscow of developments in the Baltic states' struggles for independence from the Soviet Union. Latvia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2001 with the song "Too Much" written by Arnis Mednis and Gustavs Terzens. The song was performed by Arnis Mednis. The Latvian broadcaster Latvijas Televīzija (LTV) organised the national final ''Eirodziesma 2001'' in order to select the Latvian entry for the 2001 contest in Copenhagen, Denmark. Ten songs were selected to compete in the national final on 24 February 2001 where a public televote and four thematical jury groups selected "Too Much" performed by Arnis Mednis as the winner. Stano (born Stanislav Stavitsky, russian: Станислав Ставицкий, lt, Stanislavas Stavickis; 25 November 1981) is a Russian-Lithuanian singer, songwriter, and author. He is the frontman of the musical group Delfinai. Stavickis has also written two novels, autobiographical ''Kiek kainuoja ilgesys'' (How Much Does Longing Cost, 2004), and ''Neįtikėtinos istorijos'' (Unbelievable Stories, 2008). Stavickis was born to a Russian mother and a Lithuanian father. He came to Lithuania in 1992 to study at the Vilnius Secondary School "Lietuvių namai" (now known as Vilnius lietuvių namai), designed for students of Lithuanian heritage from foreign countries. Here he met Viačeslavas Saninas (DJ Sweetas, keyboard) and they established band called Delfinai (dolphins) in 2000. Andrius Mamontovas (born 23 August 1967) is a Lithuanian rock musician. He is also a songwriter, actor, performer and record producer. He was one of the co-founders of the Lithuanian rock band Foje and the initiator of the LT United project. Personal life His father was Russian and mother Lithuanian. LT United were a Lithuanian music group created in 2006 for the sole purpose of representing Lithuania in the Eurovision Song Contest 2006. The group entered the Lithuanian pre-selection event with the song "We Are the Winners", winning with almost twice as many votes as the runners-up, and finished 6th in the Eurovision Song Contest final with 162 points. Lithuania has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest (known in Lithuania as ''Eurovizijos dainų konkursas'') 22 times since its debut in 1994, where Ovidijus Vyšniauskas finished last, receiving "nul points". Lithuania withdrew from the contest, not returning until 1999. LT United's sixth place in with the song "We Are the Winners" is Lithuania's best result in the contest.
