Night Markets In Taiwan
Taiwanese night markets ( zh, t=夜市, p=yèshì) are street markets in Taiwan that operate in urban or suburban areas between sunset and sunrise. A few, such as Huaxi Street Tourist Night Market (or Snake Alley), utilize purpose-built marketplaces, but most occupy either sidewalks or even entire streets that carry vehicle and pedestrian traffic by day. Some night markets in smaller side streets and alleys feature retractable roofs. Most night markets operate daily and feature a mixture of individual stalls selling clothing, consumer goods, ''xiaochi'' (similar to snacks or fast food), and specialty drinks. The atmosphere is usually crowded and noisy with hawkers shouting and fast-paced music playing over loudspeakers. Shida Night Market
The Shida Night Market () is a night market in Da'an District, Taipei, Taiwan. It is located near National Taiwan Normal University, whose name in Chinese is pronounced phonetically as Shida. Shida night market was a very popular night market given its unique shops, restaurants and fashionable clothing stores. However, as the area Shida night market occupied was close to National Taiwan Normal University, it has always been a place that many intellectuals called home. As a result, the neighborhood is decidedly more cultured than your typical neighborhood in Taipei. Due to resident complaints regarding the noise, trash and people the night market attracted to the area, as well as government rezoning efforts, Shida night market is now much smaller than it used to be. Luzhou District () is an inner city district in northwestern New Taipei City, Taiwan. It is the second smallest district in New Taipei City after Yonghe District. History Historically the area was called ''Lō·-chiu'' (鷺州) and ''Hê-siūⁿ-chiu'' (和尙州). On 6 October 1997, Luzhou was upgraded from a rural township to a county-administered city (; postal: Loochow) in the former Taipei County. On 25 December 2010, Taipei County was upgraded to New Taipei City, subsequently Luzhou was upgraded into a district. Luzhou Night Market
Luzhou (; Sichuanese Pinyin: Nu2zou1; Luzhou dialect: ), formerly transliterated as Lu-chou or Luchow, is a prefecture-level city located in the southeast of Sichuan Province, China. The city, named Jiangyang until the Southern and Northern Dynasties, is known as the "Liquor City" (). Situated at the confluence of the Tuo River and the Yangtze River, Luzhou is not only an important port on the Yangtze river, but also the largest port in both size and output in Sichuan province since Chongqing was separated from Sichuan province in 1997. Yonghe District
Yonghe District () is an urban area in the southern part of New Taipei, Taiwan. Yonghe District is the smallest district in New Taipei City. It is primarily a mixed residential and commercial area. With around 38,000 inhabitants per square kilometer as of 2019, Yonghe is one of the most densely populated urban areas in the world. History On 1 January 1979, Yonghe was upgraded from an Township (Taiwan), urban township to a county-administered city of Taipei County. With the changing of Taipei County to the special municipality (Taiwan), special municipality of New Taipei City on 25 December 2010, Yonghe City was changed to Yonghe District. The Lehua Night Market () is a night market in Yonghe District, New Taipei, Taiwan. History In 2012, a group filed a complaint to the night market citing the community's safety was compromised by the presence of the night market vendors. In 2015, the night market faced risk of being closed. Features The night market, which was set up in the 1970s, offers a rich mix of snack stalls, shopping and entertainment facilities including the KTV chain Party World. Taiwanese food such as rice cakes, tempura, oyster omelet, shrimp and meat stew and shaved ice can be found here. Sanchong District
Sanchong District () is a district in the western part of New Taipei City, Taiwan. With an area of 16.32 km2 and a population of 378,736 people (2022), it has the fourth highest population density in Taiwan and 23rd highest in the world, with over 23,900 people per km2. Geography Sanchong is bounded to the north and northwest by Luzhou, Wugu, the west by Xinzhuang, and is separated from Taipei City by the Tamsui River. Datong Night Market
Datong is a prefecture-level city in northern Shanxi Province in the People's Republic of China. It is located in the Datong Basin at an elevation of and borders Inner Mongolia to the north and west and Hebei to the east. Neihu District
Neihu District is a district of Taipei City, Taiwan. Neihu means "inner lake." The older name originates from the Ketagalan word ''Tayour'' (transliterated by the Dutch as ''Cattajo''), meaning woman's head ornament. Beitou District
Beitou District is the northernmost of the twelve districts of Taipei City, Taiwan. The historical spelling of the district is Peitou. The name originates from the Ketagalan word ''Kipatauw'', meaning witch. Beitou is the most mountainous and highest of Taipei's districts, encompassing a meadow with rivers running through the valley which have abundant steam rising from them; the result of geothermal warming.
