Antrodoco
Antrodoco ( Sabino: ) is a town and ''comune'' in the province of Rieti, in the Lazio region of central Italy. The name derives from the Latin Interocrea (between the mountains). Geography Antrodoco is located along the Velino river, in the confluence point of two apennine valleys: the Velino valley, at North, and the Rio creek valley (a tributary of Velino) at East. Both are highly suggestive valleys, so narrow that they form canyons with sheer rock over the river: the first canyon is known as ''Gole del Velino'', the latter as ''Gole di Antrodoco''. Monte Giano, the mountain where ''Gole di Antrodoco'' is located, is known for a pine tree forest with the shape of the word "DVX" (Latin for duce) which was planted in 1939 and is visible from miles of distance. Anticoli Corrado ( Romanesco: ) is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Metropolitan City of Rome in the Italian region Latium, located about northeast of Rome. Anticoli Corrado borders the following municipalities: Mandela, Marano Equo, Rocca Canterano, Roviano, Saracinesco. Anticoli became known in the 19th century because its young inhabitants used to pose as models for the community of artists living near Piazza di Spagna in Rome. Some artists eventually went to see the birthplace of their models and found Anticoli a very picturesque site to the point of living there for some time. Anguillara Sabazia
Anguillara Sabazia is a town and ''comune'' in the Metropolitan City of Rome, Lazio, central Italy, around northwest of Rome. It nestles on a small cape on the coast of Lake Bracciano; its medieval center and its beach make it a popular destination for tourists. Anguillara is served by a local train (line "FR3", or Rome-Capranica-Viterbo Railroad) which connects it with Rome (stations of Roma Ostiense and of Valle Aurelia) in around 40 minutes. Anagni () is an ancient town and ''comune'' in the province of Frosinone, Lazio, Latium, central Italy, in the hills east-southeast of Rome. It is a historical and artistic center of the Latin Valley. Geography Overview Anagni still maintains the appearance of a small medieval hill town (424 meters above sea level), with small twisting streets and steep lanes. It is built inside Roman boundary walls. Amatrice
Amatrice (; Sabino: ) is a town and ''comune'' in the province of Rieti, in northern Lazio (central Italy), and the center of the food-agricultural area of Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park. The town was devastated by a powerful earthquake on 24 August 2016. History Archaeological discoveries show a human presence in the area of Amatrice since prehistoric times, and the remains of Roman buildings and tombs have also been found. After the fall of the Western Roman Empire, the area became part of the Lombard Duchy of Spoleto, included in the comitatus of Ascoli. The town of Matrice is mentioned in the papers of the Abbey of Farfa in 1012 as commanding the confluence of the Tronto and Castellano rivers. In the year 900 the Pope was from Amatrice. Amaseno
Amaseno (local dialect: ) is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Province of Frosinone in the Italian region Lazio, located about southeast of Rome and about south of Frosinone, located in the Monti Lepini mountain area. Its inhabitants are primarily farmers. The village is very ancient and named in the ''Aeneid''. Many of Amaseno's people have immigrated to the United States of America, in Canada and South America (especially in Brazil). Main sights The Catholic Church situated at the village's center, St. Mary of Amaseno, houses a relic of St. Lawrence, the ancient Roman deacon martyred in the 3rd century. A vial of the martyr's blood is enshrined there, and every 10 August on his feast day, the day on which his martyrdom is commemorated, it liquifies. Alvito is a town and ''comune'' in central Italy, in the province of Frosinone, south of Rome in the Lazio region. Its territory is included in the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park. History Alvito was called in antiquity "Albetum", and was later a possession of the Counts of Aquino and the Cantelmo family. Alvito was the seat of a Duchy, created in 1454, on the boundary of the Kingdom of Naples (later, Kingdom of the Two Sicilies). Allumiere is traditionally divided into the ''contrada, contrade'' of Burò, Ghetto, La Bianca, Nona, Polveriera, and Sant'Antonio. History Although evidence of human settlements in the local area date back to the Neolithic age, the origins of the modern town of Allumiere are relatively recent. Allumiere was founded in the late 15th century to house the workers and the administrators of the important mines of alunite of the nearby Monti della Tolfa range. The exploitation lasted until 1941.
