John Smith (Ontario MP)
John Smith (February 18, 1894 – November 8, 1977) was an Ontario businessman and political figure. He represented Lincoln in the House of Commons of Canada as a Progressive Conservative member from 1957 to 1962. He was born in Scotland in 1894, the son of Daniel Smith and Annie Douglas, and grew up there. Smith was a building contractor in St. Catharines. He served in the Canadian Army during World War I. In 1924, he married Jean Wood. Smith served on the city council of St. Catharines and was mayor from 1954 to 1957. He was defeated by James McNulty in the 1962 general election. Mat Siscoe is a Canadian politician who is the current mayor of St. Catharines, Ontario. Previously Siscoe sat on St. Catharines City Council for twelve years, before being appointed to Niagara Regional Council to fill a vacancy left by the death of councillor Sandie Bellows. CHCH-DT (channel 11) is an independent television station in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Owned by Channel Zero, the station maintains studios on Innovation Drive in the west end of Hamilton; prior to 2021, it was located near the corner of Jackson and Caroline streets in downtown Hamilton for nearly 65 years. The station has additional offices at the Marriott on the Falls in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Its transmitter is located on First Road West in the former city of Stoney Creek. CHCH signed on the air on June 7, 1954, as a CBC affiliate, founded by Ken Soble. Walter Sendzik
Walter Sendzik (born February 28, 1972) is a Canadian politician who served as the mayor of St. Catharines from 2014 to 2022. As mayor, he sat on Niagara Regional Council. Sendzik did not run for a third term in the 2022 Niagara Region municipal elections, and was succeeded as mayor by Mat Siscoe. Career Prior to being elected, Sendzik was the general manager of the Greater Niagara Chamber of Commerce. He had been with the Chamber of Commerce for seven years. Prior to this, he founded Vines Publishing, a publishing company specializing in wine and travel, including ''Vines'' magazine. He sold the company in 2005. He also served as president of the Niagara Wine Festival. He holds a B.A. from Wilfrid Laurier University and a master's degree from McGill University. Brian James McMullan was the mayor of St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada from 2006 to 2014. He was elected to the position in the 2006 St. Catharines municipal election. He was previously a St. Catharines city councillor and a Niagara regional councillor. Early life and career McMullan was born in Hamilton and raised in the Niagara region. He has a degree from Brock University, and is the vice-president of Hanna Paper Recycling. He is a former chairman of the Recycling Council of Ontario, and worked to establish Ontario's blue box recycling program. Timothy H. Rigby is a politician in Ontario, Canada. He served as Mayor of St. Catharines from 1997 to 2006, and is currently a Niagara Regional Councillor. Rigby is an insurance broker in private life, and was a partner with the Rose, Horne and Stevenson Group from 1979 to 1997. He has also been active in the sports community, serving as the president of Rowing Canada and leading a successful drive for St. Catharines to host the 1999 World Rowing Championships. In 1996, he was inducted into the St. Catharines Sports Hall of Fame. Rigby was endorsed by outgoing Mayor Alan Unwin in 1997, and defeated city councillor Rick Dykstra by a significant margin. Alan Unwin is a politician in Ontario, Canada. He served as Mayor of St. Catharines from 1994 to 1997. Career Unwin served as principal at Carlton School and Ferndale School in St. Catharines (''Toronto Star'', 20 October 1987; ''Hamilton Spectator'', 28 June 1994). He also chaired the St. Catharines Transit Commission in the mid-1980s (''Globe and Mail'', 23 March 1985). Graham Fraser
Graham Fraser (born 1946) is a Canadian former journalist and writer who served as Canada's sixth Commissioner of Official Languages. He is the author of several books, both in English and French. Early life and education Fraser is the son of Blair Fraser, a respected newspaper and magazine reporter of the mid-20th century. Blair Fraser drowned on a canoe trip in 1968. Graham Fraser attended Upper Canada College and, later, studied at the University of Toronto where he obtained a BA in 1968 and an MA in History in 1973. In the summer of 1965, Graham Fraser went on an archeology trip at Fort Lennox, Quebec, with the intention to learn French and learn more about Quebec, as the province was undergoing the vast social transformations of the Quiet Revolution. Joseph Reid (politician)
Joseph Lloyd Reid (24 September 1917 – 14 August 2015) was a Canadian politician. He was a Progressive Conservative member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was a lawyer by career. Reid was president of the St. Catharines Chamber of Commerce in the mid-1960s and was the city's mayor from 1973 to 1976.
