Though these names typically refer to a group native to the area in which the sports team is based, many teams take their names from groups which are known for their strength (such as Spartans or Vikings), despite not being located near the historic homes of these groups. Sparta ( Doric Greek: Σπάρτα, ''Spártā''; Attic Greek: Σπάρτη, ''Spártē'') was a prominent city-state in Laconia, in ancient Greece. American Hockey League
The American Hockey League (AHL) is a professional ice hockey league based in the United States and Canada that serves as the primary Minor league#Ice hockey, developmental league for the National Hockey League (NHL). When NHL teams do not have an AHL affiliate, players are assigned to AHL teams affiliated with other NHL teams. Indios Del Bóer
The Indios del Bóer are a professional baseball team based in Managua, Nicaragua competing in the Nicaraguan Professional Baseball League. Their home games are played at the Dennis Martínez National Stadium. They have won the Nicaraguan league eight times. The team, as well as their fans, are commonly referred to as ''La Tribu'' or ''the tribe''. History Indios del Bóer were established in 1905, simply as Bóer. Boers ( ; af, Boere ()) are the descendants of the Dutch-speaking Free Burghers of the eastern Cape frontier in Southern Africa during the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries.
