The National Democratic Institute (NDI), or National Democratic Institute for International Affairs, is a non-profit American NGO that works with partners in developing countries to increase the effectiveness of democratic institutions. The NDI's core program areas include citizen participation, elections, debates, democratic governance, democracy and technology, political inclusion of marginalized groups, and gender, women and democracy, peace and security, political parties, and youth political participation. 2023 Ecuadorian Local Elections
The 2023 Ecuadorian local elections were held on 5 February 2023, alongside the 2023 Ecuadorian constitutional referendum. These elections determined 23 prefects, 23 vice-prefects, 221 mayors, 868 urban councilors, 437 rural councilors, and 4,084 principal members of the parish councils. The previous elections were held in 2019. The 2023 Trinidadian local elections were held on Monday, August 14, 2023, across all 141 electoral districts in Trinidad's 14 municipal corporation electoral areas. The elections follow a 3-2 ruling on May 18, 2023, from the United Kingdom's Judicial Committee of the Privy Council, the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago's highest court of appeal, which stated that the government's one-year extension of the mandate of councillors and alderman was unlawful. 2023 Guatemalan General Election
General elections were held in Guatemala on 25 June 2023 to elect the president and vice president, all 160 seats of the Congress, all 20 members of the Central American Parliament, and mayors and councils for all 340 municipalities in the country. 2023 Guyanese Local Elections
The 2023 Guyanese local elections, officially due since 2020, were held on Monday, June 12, 2023, following the latest delay of the officially biennial polls by three years due to lawsuits and vacanies at the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) following the fallout and misconduct of the 2020 Guyanese general election and the COVID-19 pandemic. 2023 Alberta General Election
The 2023 Alberta general election is scheduled by law to be held on May 29, 2023 to elect the members of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta.
