This list of churches in Nord-Hålogaland is a list of the Church of Norway churches in the Diocese of Nord-Hålogaland which includes all of Troms og Finnmark county in Norway. The diocese is based at the Tromsø Cathedral in the city of Tromsø. The list is divided into several sections, one for each deanery () in the diocese. Each is led by a provost (). Administratively within each deanery, the churches are divided by municipalities which have their own church council (). Each municipal church council may be made up of one or more parishes (), each of which may have their own council (). Each parish may have one or more congregations in it. Helgøy Church
Helgøy Church ( no, Helgøy kirke) is a historic parish church of the Church of Norway in Karlsøy Municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. It is located on the small unpopulated island of Helgøya. It is a little-used annex church for the Karlsøy parish which is part of the Tromsø domprosti (arch-deanery) in the Diocese of Nord-Hålogaland. The 350-seat church is no longer in regular use since the island of Helgøya is no longer populated. The last confirmation class at the church was confirmed in 1966. The population of the island decreased steadily until it no longer had permanent residents. Today, the island is used for summer vacation homes and the church is now only used on occasion for special services, including one summer service each year. Elverhøy Church
Elverhøy Church ( no, Elverhøy kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Tromsø Municipality in Troms county, Norway. It is located in the city of Tromsø. It is the church for the Elverhøy parish which is part of the Tromsø domprosti (arch-deanery) in the Diocese of Nord-Hålogaland. The church was built in its current location in 1974 and it now seats about 435 people. History This church building was originally built in 1803 on the site of the present Tromsø Cathedral. The church, then simply known as ''Tromsø Church'' served the whole city of Tromsø. In 1814, this building served as an election church ( no, valgkirke) for the city of Tromsø. Together with more than 300 other parish churches across Norway, it was a polling station for elections to the 1814 Norwegian Constituent Assembly which wrote the Constitution of Norway. Vanna (Troms)
Vanna or Vannøya is a rocky island in Karlsøy Municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. At , Vanna is the 17th largest island in Norway by area. The highest peak is the mountain Vanntinden at a height of above sea level. The population of the island (2017) is 799. Vannvåg and Vannareid are the two main population centres on the island. Sengskroken Church is located on the western coast of the island. The islands of Nordkvaløya and Helgøya lie to the west of the island, and Nord-Fugløya and Arnøya lie to the east of it. Sengskroken Church
Sengskroken Church ( no, Sengskroken kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Karlsøy Municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. It is located on the western coast of the island of Vanna (also known as Vannøya). It is an annex church for the Karlsøy parish which is part of the Tromsø domprosti (arch-deanery) in the Diocese of Nord-Hålogaland. The white, wooden church (originally it was a "chapel") was built in a long church style in 1962 by the architect Knut P. Bugge. The church seats about 225 people. History In 1955, a meeting of the local residents on the island of Vanna was held in regards to the need for a church on the island. Land for a chapel was donated by a widow named Petro Hansen. When the work was started, most of the groundwork was done on a voluntary basis. The drawing of the building was the same as for Billefjord Chapel in Finnmark. Hansnes
Hansnes is the administrative centre of Karlsøy Municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. The village is located on the northeast side of the island of Ringvassøya, along the Langsundet strait. By car, it is about northeast of the city of Tromsø. The Langsund Tunnel is a proposed undersea tunnel which will connect the islands of Ringvassøya and Reinøya. When built, the tunnel will replace the ferry service from Hansnes to the nearby islands of Karlsøya, Vannøya, and Reinøya. The village has a population (2017) of 493 which gives the village a population density of . Ringvassøy Church
Ringvassøy Church ( no, Ringvassøy kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Karlsøy Municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. It is located in the village of Hansnes on the island of Ringvassøya. It is the main church for the Karlsøy parish which is part of the Tromsø domprosti (arch-deanery) in the Diocese of Nord-Hålogaland. History In 1970, when the administrative centre of Karlsøy Municipality was moved from the small island of Karlsøya to the village of Hansnes (on Ringvassøya island), the discussion began about building a church in Hansnes to be the new main church for the municipality. The white, concrete church building was completed in 1977 and it seats about 400 people. The church has a fan-shaped design. The church was consecrated on 12 June 1977 by the Bishop Kristen Kyrre Bremer.
