Tennis
Tennis is a racket sport that is played either individually against a single opponent ( singles) or between two teams of two players each ( doubles). Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent's court. The object of the game is to manoeuvre the ball in such a way that the opponent is not able to play a valid return. The player who is unable to return the ball validly will not gain a point, while the opposite player will. Tennis is an Olympic sport and is played at all levels of society and at all ages. Lennart Bergelin
Sven Lennart Bergelin (10 June 1925 – 4 November 2008) was a Swedish tennis player and coach. As a player, for AIK, Bergelin won nine Swedish championship singles titles between 1945 and 1955, and the French Open doubles title in 1948. Bergelin is best known for his work with Björn Borg, whom he trained between 1971 and 1983, helping him to win 11 Grand Slam tournaments. Bergelin also captained Sweden to its first Davis Cup title. Borje Fornstedt
Emil Börje Fornstedt (4 February 1926 – 22 September 2015) was a Swedish tennis player. Tennis career In 1948 Fornstedt won the Scandinavian singles championships held in Copenhagen beating Kurt Nielsen, 1–6, 7–5, 6–1, 6–2 in the final and he also won the doubles, with Sven Davidson. During July 1948 he represented Sweden in the Davis Cup Europe Zone final against Czechoslovakia. In September 1949 he won the Aachen Invitational Tournament in Germany, beating Ernst Buchholz in the final and in October 1949 he won the first Israeli International Championships, with a victory over Yehuda Finkelkraut in the final. Fornstedt participated in two Grand Slam events, the 1948 Wimbledon Championships and the 1952 French Open. Markus Eriksson (born 29 November 1989) is a retired Swedish tennis player. Eriksson has a career high ATP singles ranking of 277, achieved on 19 August 2019. Tennis career Eriksson made his ATP main draw singles debut at the 2013 Swedish Open where he lost in the first round to MartÃn Alund. In 2014, he made his debut in the main draw of an ATP doubles event, when he and partner Isak Arvidsson received a wild card at the Swedish Open. Thomas Enqvist
Thomas Karl Johan Enqvist (born 13 March 1974) is a Swedish former professional tennis player. He reached the final of the 1999 Australian Open – Men's singles, 1999 Australian Open and won a total of 19 singles titles, including three ATP Tour Masters 1000, Masters titles. He has a career high ATP world singles ranking of No. 4, achieved on 15 November 1999. Hans Ivar Åke Eliaeson (26 May 1923 – 24 January 2015) was a Swedish tennis player. Tennis career Eliaeson represented the Swedish Davis Cup team in the 1952 Europe Zone second round tie against Chile. He played the last singles rubber in Sweden's 5–0 victory. Eliaeson played in one Grand Slam tournament, the 1950 US Open, where he lost to Sam Match. Stefan Edberg
Stefan Bengt Edberg (; born 19 January 1966) is a Swedish former professional tennis player. A major proponent of the serve-and-volley style of tennis, he won six Grand Slam singles titles and three Grand Slam men's doubles titles between 1985 and 1996. Sven Viktor Davidson (13 July 1928 – 28 May 2008) was a Swedish tennis player who became the first Swede to win a Grand Slam title when he won the French Championships in 1957, beating Ashley Cooper and Herbert Flam. Career Davidson also reached the French championships final in the two previous years. In 1955 he beat Budge Patty before losing to Tony Trabert. In 1956 he beat Flam and Cooper before losing to Lew Hoad. He also reached the Wimbledon semi finals in 1957 (beating Seixas before losing to Lew Hoad). At the 1957 U. S. Championships, Davidson lost in five sets in the semifinals to Mal Anderson. In 1958 Davidson partnered with Ulf Schmidt to win the doubles title at the Wimbledon Championships defeating the Australian pair Ashley Cooper and Neale Fraser in three straight sets. Martin Carlstein
Martin Carlstein (20 May 1942 – 17 July 2018) was a tennis player from Sweden. Career Carlstein played in one match for Sweden in the Davis Cup competition, being the 1969 Europe Zone first-round tie against Finland. He partnered with Ove Bengtson in the doubles, to beat George Berner and Heikki Hedman in straight sets. He also captained the Swedish Davis Cup team in 1977 and 1978. Carlstein participated in the singles and doubles competition at the 1969 US Open. In the singles he lost in the first round to Robert McKinley and in the doubles, with partner Ove Bengtson, lost in the second round. Kent Carlsson
Kent Carlsson (born 3 January 1968) is a former tennis player from Sweden. A seasoned claycourter, he won all nine of his ATP tour singles titles on the surface, including the 1988 Hamburg Masters. Carlsson achieved a career-high singles ranking of World No. 6 in September 1988. Playing career Juniors Carlsson was a successful junior winning the Kalle Anka Cup, which is a Swedish junior tournament through the under 11, under 13s twice and under 15.
