North Melbourne Football Club
The North Melbourne Football Club, nicknamed the Kangaroos, is a professional Australian rules football club. The men's team competes in the Australian Football League (AFL), and the women's team in the AFL Women's (AFLW). The Kangaroos also field a reserves men's team in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Founded in the suburb of North Melbourne in 1869 and based at the Arden Street Oval, it is the 4th oldest club in the competition and one of the oldest surviving clubs in the world. Its original home at Arden Street continues to serve as its headquarters, training facilities and home ground for its women's side. The club's senior men's team plays its home matches at Marvel Stadium in the Docklands area of Melbourne, Victoria, as well as Blundstone Arena in Hobart, Tasmania which is also used by the women's team as a secondary home ground. Bill Findlay
Bill Findlay (29 October 1913 – 28 May 1986) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Footscray and North Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). He played as a rover and was sometimes pushed forward where he was a handy goalkicker, averaging two goals a game. Findlay was started his league career with his local side Footscray and played his first game of VFL in 1933. He managed just the one game in his debut season and four in the next prompting him to move to North Melbourne in 1935. He took over the captaincy partway through the 1941 VFL season and remained in that position until the end of 1943. His leadership role expanded to captain and coach for the latter part of 1942 and the entire 1943 season. During this time Findlay found himself resting in the forward pocket and was North's leading goal kicker in 1943, 1944 and 1945. Barry Goodingham
Barry Goodingham (born 9 May 1945) was a regular first ruckman for the North Melbourne Football Club and South Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Nicknamed ' Lurch', due to his resemblance to the butler in the television sitcom The Addams Family, he captained North Melbourne in 1971. Recruited from Edithvale-Aspendale, he was selected in North Melbourne's first Premiership team in 1975, but appeared only briefly to replace Mick Nolan late in the last quarter. He enjoys a life membership of the North Melbourne Football Club. John Dugdale (footballer)
John Dugdale (born 8 March 1936) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for North Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). He shares with Jock Spencer the club record of seven times topping their season ending goalkicking charts. From 1957 until 1964, Dugdale was North Melbourne's top goalkicker in all but one season. A 1958 All Australian, Dugdale was captain of the Kangaroos from 1968 to 1970. He won a Best and Fairest in his first season as captain. Noel Teasdale
Noel Teasdale (born 2 January 1938) is a former Australian rules footballer who played in the VFL/AFL, Victorian Football League (VFL) and the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). Originally from Daylesford Football Club, Daylesford, Teasdale made his debut with the North Melbourne Football Club in 1956 playing as a ruckman and for a period, a full-back. Teasdale was noted for his tough, uncompromising play and in 1964 this almost cost him his life – as his head clashed with that of North teammate Ken Dean (Australian footballer), Ken Dean leaving him in a serious condition in St Vincent's Hospital, Melbourne, St. Vincent's Hospital. Allen Aylett
Allen James Aylett OBE (24 April 1934 – 16 September 2022) was an Australian rules football player and administrator. He was the chairman/president of the North Melbourne Football Club from 1971 to 1976, and then again from 2001 to 2005. In between, he had been the chairman of the then Victorian Football League (VFL) from 1977 to 1984. Aylett worked as a dentist throughout his career and into his eighties. Early life Aylett was born in Melbourne on 24 April 1934. He attended University High School in his hometown. He made his debut for North Melbourne at the age of 17 while he was still in secondary school, a rare feat at the time. Albert Joseph Mantello (30 April 1934 – 26 September 2021) was a former Italian-Australian rules footballer who played for North Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). A strongly built and physical footballer, Mantello usually played as either a half back flanker or centreman. John Brady (footballer)
John Brady (20 February 1932 – 4 October 2022) was an Australian rules footballer who played with North Melbourne in the VFL during the 1950s, after being signed by them in 1952 from the Benalla Football Club. A key position player, Brady was North Melbourne's Syd Barker Medalist in 1954 and placed equal sixth in that year's Brownlow Medal count. He captained North from 1957 to his retirement at the end of the 1959 season. During his career he also represented Victoria at interstate football. Vic Lawrence (Australian Rules Footballer)
Victor Thomas Lawrence (2 January 1928 – 1 April 1986) was an Australian rules footballer who played with North Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). A key defender, Lawrence was used as both a centre half-back and fullback during his career. Lawrence was a North Melbourne player from Colts level and broke into the seniors for the first time in 1948. He was a regular member of the side from 1950 to 1955, playing 105 of a possible 109 games. In the 1950 VFL Grand Final, which North Melbourne lost to Essendon, Lawrence played as the 19th man. Les Foote
Leslie Roy Foote (20 August 1924 – 11 April 2006) was an Australian rules footballer in the Victorian Football League. Football career A local lad, and recruited from the North Melbourne Colts, Foote played his first match with the North Melbourne Football Club in 1941 at just 16 years of age. He was able to kick equally well with both feet, and his ability to play close to the ground meant that he was not only a brilliant ball player, but was also had an outstanding ability to control the ball in packs. He was an excellent mark. He was famous for his baulking and dodging skills (skills which he claimed to have honed "by walking through the crowded city footpaths, dodging and weaving through the oncoming people") and his courageous style of play.
