John Brady (footballer)
John Brady (20 February 1932 – 4 October 2022) was an Australian rules footballer who played with North Melbourne in the VFL during the 1950s, after being signed by them in 1952 from the Benalla Football Club. A key position player, Brady was North Melbourne's Syd Barker Medalist in 1954 and placed equal sixth in that year's Brownlow Medal count. He captained North from 1957 to his retirement at the end of the 1959 season. During his career he also represented Victoria at interstate football. The Goulburn Valley Football Netball League is an Australian rules football and netball competition based in the Goulburn Valley region of Victoria, Australia. It is a member of the Victorian Country Football League and has won the Victorian Country Football Championships in 2003 and 2005. North Melbourne Football Club
The North Melbourne Football Club, nicknamed the Kangaroos, is a professional Australian rules football club. The men's team competes in the Australian Football League (AFL), and the women's team in the AFL Women's (AFLW). The Kangaroos also field a reserves men's team in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). Australian Football League
The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. Originally known as the Victorian Football League (VFL), it was founded in 1896 as a breakaway competition from the Victorian Football Association (VFA), with its inaugural season commencing the following year. Syd Barker Medal
The Syd Barker Medal is awarded to the North Melbourne Football Club player who has been judged the best and fairest of the footy season. The award has been given out continuously since 1937. Before then it was known as the Syd Barker Memorial Trophy. The award is named after Syd Barker who was a popular captain of the North Melbourne Football Club in 1915-1919, 1921 & 1927. He was a brilliant ruckmen of his time, starring in North Melbourne's 1910, 1914, 1915 and 1918 premiership sides, and captaining the famous "Invincibles" side that went undefeated in a record 58 games. Ararat Football Club
The Ararat Football Club, nicknamed the ''Rats'', is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the city of Ararat, Victoria. The football team currently competes in the Wimmera Football League (WFL). History Formed in 1871, Ararat won eight premierships in the Wimmera and District Football Association during the early 20th century. From 1924 to 1928, they played in the Ballarat Football League. They did not return to the Wimmera league until 1930, as they were forced to sit out of the competition for a year as punishment for their earlier defection.
