This is a list of highly notable Muay Thai practitioners (also known as nak muay). Legend * Nai Khanomtom (circa 1700s) - a legendary Thai soldier and boxer during the era of the Ayutthaya Kingdom who become known as the founder of Muay Thai. Khanomtom lived during the Second Burmese War (1765–1767). At that time, the Ayutthaya Kingdom was losing its long-running conflict with the Konbaung dynasty. In 1767, the capital of the Ayutthaya Kingdom fell, and Khanomtom was one of the warriors who were captured and sent as a captive to the King of Burma. After seven years of captivity, King Mangra wanted to see how Thai fighters would compare to his fighters. Khanomtom was selected to fight against the King's chosen champion and the boxing ring was set up in front of the throne. Pudpadnoi Worawut
Pudpadnoi Worawut ( th, ผุดผาดน้อย วรวุฒิ) is a Thai Muay Thai fighter who competed in the 1970s. He is recognized as one of the greatest Muay Thai fighters of all time. Biography and career Ponn Ommklin started Muay Thai at the age of 14 in his native province of Khon Kaen, following the steps of his older brother. His parents wouldn't let him pursue Muay Thai full time before graduating high school which he did in 1969. During that period Pudpanoi competed in Isan over 60 times and went undefeated. At the age of 18 he went to Bangkok on the advice of a fighter from the Worawut camp, at this occasion Pudpadnoi used his famous ring name for the first time as he won his debut in Rajadamnern Stadium by high kick knockout. Sagat Petchyindee (สกัด เพชรยินดี; born Wirun Phonphimai (วิรุฬห์ ผลพิมาย) on November 30, 1957), also known as Sagat Phonthawee (สกัด พรทวี), is a Thai former professional boxer, Muay Thai fighter, actor and trainer who is considered one of the greatest Muay Thai fighters of all time. He was a 3 time Lumpinee Champion, 3 time Rajadammern Champion and Muay Thai and Kickboxing World Champion. Combat career Muay Thai Sagat Petchyindee (สกัด เพชรยินดี) amassed a total of 317 Thai boxing fights with 266 wins, 40 losses and 11 draws, 151 of those victories coming by way of KO/TKO. Namkabuan Nongkeepahuyuth (; 2 February 1973 – 7 April 2021) was a Muay Thai fighter from Thailand. Biography and career He was born as Kampiaw Sijantuek (คำเพียว สีจันทึก; nickname: Piaw; เพียว). He is the younger brother of legendary fighter Namphon Nongkeepahuyuth. He fought for the first time in 1987 for a purse of 3,000 baht. Pan Asian Boxing Association
The Pan Asian Boxing Association also known as PABA is an organisation for professional boxing in the Central Asia, Oceania, Pan Pacific, Eurasia and Southeast and Far East nations. It was formed in 1995 and is headquartered in Seoul. History Since its inception in 1995 there have been over 800 sanctioned championship matches. Twenty two PABA champions have eventually been crowned as WBA world champions in their respective division, whilst PABA has assisted 37 PABA champions' challenge to the WBA world title. A knee strike (commonly referred to simply as a knee) is a strike with the knee, either with the kneecap or the surrounding area. Kneeing is a disallowed practice in many combat sports, especially to the head of a downed opponent. Styles such as kickboxing and several mixed martial arts organizations allow kneeing depending on the positioning of the fighters. Knee strikes are native to the traditional Southeast Asian martial arts and traditional Okinawan martial arts. Southpaw Stance
In boxing and some other sports, a southpaw stance is where the boxer has the right hand and the right foot forward, leading with right jabs, and following with a left cross right hook. It is the normal stance for a left-handed boxer. The corresponding boxing designation for a right-handed boxer is the orthodox stance, which is generally a mirror-image of the southpaw stance. In American English, "southpaw" generally refers to a person who is left-handed. Chamuakpet Hapalang ( th, ฉมวกเพชร ห้าพลัง; born: August 10, 1962 in Amphoe Si Racha, Chonburi province, eastern Thailand) is a retired Thai Muay Thai fighter who won five different weight classes, was champion of the Lumpinee Stadium and the Rajadamnern Stadium and was also a professional boxer. Khaosai Galaxy ( th, เขาทราย แกแล็คซี่, born, 15 May 1959) is a Thai former professional boxer who competed between 1980 and 1991. He was also a Muay Thai practitioner. He held the WBA super-flyweight title between November 1984 and December 1991. He is listed #19 on ''Ring'' Magazine's list of 100 greatest punchers of all time and named him the 43rd greatest fighter of the past 80 years in 2002. Gilberto Román (29 November 1961 – 27 June 1990) was a Mexican professional boxer and a member of the 1980 Mexican Olympic team. Román was a two-time WBC and Lineal Super Flyweight Champion and is considered by many fans to be one of the great champions in this division. Super flyweight, also referred to as junior bantamweight, is a boxing weight classes, weight class in professional boxing, contested from and up to .
