Ramon Magsaysay Award
The Ramon Magsaysay Award (Filipino: ''Gawad Ramon Magsaysay'') is an annual award established to perpetuate former Philippine President Ramon Magsaysay's example of integrity in governance, courageous service to the people, and pragmatic idealism within a democratic society. The prize was established in April 1957 by the trustees of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund based in New York City with the concurrence of the Philippine government. It is often called the "Nobel Peace Prize of Asia". Overview The award is named after Ramon Magsaysay, the seventh president of the Republic of the Philippines after World War II. The Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation gives the prize to Asian individuals achieving excellence in their respective fields. Goh Keng Swee
Goh Keng Swee (; 6 October 1918 – 14 May 2010), born Robert Goh Keng Swee, was a Singaporean politician who served as Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore between 1973 and 1985. Goh is widely recognised as one of the founding fathers of Singapore.. He was also one of the founders of the People's Action Party (PAP), which has governed the country continuously since independence. Goh was a prominent member of the country's first generation of political leaders after Singapore became independent in 1965. Miriam Palma Defensor-Santiago (''née'' Defensor; June 15, 1945 – September 29, 2016) was a Filipino scholar, academic, lawyer, judge, author, and stateswoman who served in all three branches of the Philippine government: judicial, executive, and legislative. Wu Ta-You () (27 September 1907 – 4 March 2000) was a Chinese physicist and writer who worked in the United States, Canada, mainland China and Taiwan. He has been called the Father of Chinese Physics. Early life and education Wu was born in Panyu, Guangzhou (Canton) in the last years of the Qing dynasty. In 1929 he took his undergraduate degree at Nankai University in Tianjin (Tientsin). He moved to the United States for graduate schooling and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy Degree from the University of Michigan in 1933. Su Nan-cheng
Su Nan-cheng (; 14 January 1936 – 2 September 2014) was a Taiwanese politician and Senior Advisor to ROC President Chen Shui-bian. He was a mayor of Tainan, serving from 1977 to 1985, and an appointed mayor of Kaohsiung, serving from 1985 to 1990. He was the speaker of the ROC National Assembly in 1999. Su was in the Kuomintang and was part of the faction that supported the Taiwanese localization movement. Prawase Wasi ( th, ประเวศ วะสี; , born 1931) is a Thai haematologist, political actor and public intellectual. A highly influential figure, his works range from thalassaemia-related research and helping develop Thailand's healthcare systems to initiating and backing the 1997 Constitution of Thailand. Dato’ Shahrum bin Yub (1934 - 2016) was born in Tanjung Malim, Perak, Malaysia on 21 April 1934. His parents were Yeop bin Rawang (a violin teacher) and ‘Chek’ (a ''mak yong'' performer). He passed his School Certificate with a Grade One at the Anderson (Secondary) School in Ipoh and was subsequently awarded a Perak State Scholarship to study anthropology at Leeds University, England. He was the first Malaysian to be awarded a Diploma in Museology from the British Museum. While at Leeds University, he was approached by Tan Sri Mubin Sheppard to join the National Museum in 1966, initially charged with collecting artefacts as a curator of the ''orang asli'' gallery.
