Deputy (France)
Deputies ( French: ''députés''), also known in English as Members of Parliament (MPs), are the legislators who sit in the National Assembly, the lower house of the French Parliament. The 15th and current legislature of the Fifth Republic has a total of 577 deputies, elected in 577 constituencies across metropolitan (539) and overseas France (27), as well as for French residents overseas (11). Name The term "deputy" is associated with the legislator's task to deputise for the people of his constituency. Current There are currently 577 French deputies. They are elected through the two-round system in single-member constituencies. In 2019, it was reported that the Government of France wanted to cut the number of deputies by 25%. José Beaurain
José Beaurain (born 27 July 1971) is a French politician of the National Rally (RN) and disability rights campaigner. He has been Member of the National Assembly for Aisne's 4th constituency following the 2022 French legislative election. Beaurain was the first blind person elected as a deputy of the French Fifth Republic. Biography Beaurain is a piano tuner by profession and also practices bodybuilding. He won several local bodybuilding contests and was president of a sports union for disabled people in France.. Beaurain was born visually impaired due to congenital glaucoma and completely lost his sight in 2008. He has focused on issues faced by people with disabilities during his political career. New Ecologic And Social People's Union
The New Ecological and Social People's Union (french: Nouvelle Union populaire écologique et sociale, link=no, NUPES) is a left-wing alliance of political parties in France. Formed on May Day 2022, the alliance includes La France Insoumise (LFI), the Socialist Party (PS), the French Communist Party (PCF), Europe Ecology – The Greens (EELV), Ensemble! La France Insoumise (FI or LFI; ; "France Unbowed") is a left-wing populist political party in France, launched in 2016 by Jean-Luc Mélenchon, then a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) and former co-president of the Left Party (PG). It aims to implement the eco-socialist and democratic socialist programme ''L'Avenir en commun'' (). The party nominated Mélenchon as its candidate for the presidential election of 2017. He came fourth in the first round, receiving 19.5% of the vote and failing to qualify for the second round by around 2%. Christophe Castaner (; born 3 January 1966) is a French politician, former minister of parliament, and former Minister of the Interior from 16 October 2018 to 6 July 2020. Bénédicte Peyrol (born 23 March 1991) is a French lawyer and politician of La République En Marche! (LREM) who was a member of the French National Assembly from 2017 to 2022, representing Allier.
