This is an episode list for the sitcom ''Father Ted'' created by Arthur Mathews and Graham Linehan, and was produced by Hat Trick Productions for Channel 4. It stars Dermot Morgan, Ardal O'Hanlon, Frank Kelly and Pauline McLynn. The series is set on the fictional Craggy Island off the coast of Ireland and is about three Roman Catholic priests and their housekeeper. Sitcom
A sitcom, a portmanteau of situation comedy, or situational comedy, is a genre of comedy centered on a fixed set of characters who mostly carry over from episode to episode. Sitcoms can be contrasted with sketch comedy, where a troupe may use new characters in each sketch, and stand-up comedy, where a comedian tells jokes and stories to an audience. Sitcoms originated in radio, but today are found mostly on television as one of its dominant narrative forms. A situation comedy television program may be recorded in front of a studio audience, depending on the program's production format. The effect of a live studio audience can be imitated or enhanced by the use of a laugh track. Critics disagree over the utility of the term "sitcom" in classifying shows that have come into existence since the turn of the century. Pat Shortt
Patrick Shortt (born 12 December 1967) is an Irish actor, comedian, writer and entertainer. His role in the 2007 film ''Garage'' led to him receiving the IFTA for Best Actor. Career Shortt toured alongside Jon Kenny as comedy duo D'Unbelievables. They released "One Hell of a Video", "D'Unbelievables", "D'Video" (a live random sketch show), "D'Telly" (featuring Shortt and Kenny playing various characters – primarily two brothers who run a shop together), "D'Mother" (in which Kenny's character oversaw the running of a public house alongside his "mother" – who was later revealed to be his father, in a role played by Shortt) and "D'collection". One character played by Shortt was Dan Clancy, known for telling "his stories". The pair were highly successful in Ireland, selling out the Vicar Street venue for 14 weeks. Ann Rowan
Ann Rowan (1928/1929 - 10 August 2014) was an Irish actress. She was best known for her role as Julia Mac in the RTÉ television soap opera ''The Riordans''. Geoffrey Perkins
Geoffrey Howard Perkins (22 February 1953 – 29 August 2008) was a British comedy producer, writer and performer. Best known as the BBC head of comedy (1995–2001), he produced the first two radio series of ''The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy'' and is one of the people credited with creating the bizarre panel game Mornington Crescent for ''I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue''. In December 2008 he posthumously received an Outstanding Contribution to Comedy Award. Early life Perkins attended the Harrow County Grammar School, alongside Nigel Sheinwald, Michael Portillo and Clive Anderson, with whom he ran the debating society. Jim Norton (born 4 January 1938) is an Irish stage, film and television character actor, known for his work in the theatre, most notably in Conor McPherson's '' The Seafarer'', and on television as Bishop Brennan in the sitcom ''Father Ted''. Early life Jim Norton was born on 4 January 1938 in Dublin, Ireland, and educated at Synge Street CBS. "The Passion of Saint Tibulus" is the third episode of the first series of the Channel 4 sitcom ''Father Ted''. Originally airing in 1995, the episode was rebroadcast on BBC2 in 2008 in tribute to Geoffrey Perkins. Synopsis Ted hosts Cuba's Father Hernandez at the Craggy Island Parochial House who, seeing Mrs Doyle, confesses he sometimes finds a life of celibacy difficult, and Ted mentions Bishop Brennan, who is rumoured to have a son who lives in America. John Kingsley Orton (1 January 1933 – 9 August 1967), known by the pen name of Joe Orton, was an English playwright, author, and diarist.
