Ann Rowan
Ann Rowan (1928/1929 - 10 August 2014) was an Irish actress. She was best known for her role as Julia Mac in the RTÉ television soap opera ''The Riordans''. She also had roles in the television series ''Father Ted'' and ''Screen Two''. The Outsider (1980 Film)
''The Outsider'' is a 1979 film thriller set largely in Belfast during The Troubles; it was the first film directed by Italian-American Tony Luraschi. The film is based on the book ''The Heritage of Michael Flaherty'' by Colin Leinster, and details the fictional experience of an idealistic Irish-American who travels to Ireland and joins the IRA in the 1970s. Production Luraschi, who had worked as an assistant director with Stanley Kramer and Roger Vadim, had never been to Ireland until 1976. The company was unable to film in Northern Ireland, so instead made arrangement with a local residents' association to film the exterior scenes in the Dublin suburb of Ringsend. Release Despite the distributor's hope, the film was rejected by the 1979 London Film Festival. It opened at The Gate 2 cinema in Bloomsbury, London on 29 November 1979 during the festival. ''Ulysses'' is a 1967 drama film loosely based on James Joyce's 1922 novel ''Ulysses (novel), Ulysses''. It concerns the meeting of two Irishmen, Leopold Bloom and Stephen Dedalus, in 1904 Dublin. Starring Milo O'Shea as Leopold Bloom, Barbara Jefford as Molly Bloom, Maurice Roëves as Stephen Dedalus, T. P. McKenna as Buck Mulligan, and Sheila O'Sullivan as May Golding Dedalus, it was adapted by Fred Haines and Joseph Strick and directed by Strick. ''Screen Two'' was a British television anthology drama series, produced by the BBC and transmitted on BBC2 from 1985 to 1998 (not to be confused with a run of films shown on BBC2 under the billing ''Screen 2'' between April 1977 and March 1978).
